[edit]"Gruff Rhys (pronounced 'Griff Rhiis')"
and how exactly is THAT pronounced? Voretus the Benevolent 16:33, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Precisely. I do wish people would just get get used to the IPA and start using it. Well, I've made the change. I'm assuming, incidentally, that he pronounces his name [r̥iːs] and not [r̥ɨːs] as in the north. garik 18:09, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- Not that I understand IPA lettering, but I'm sure that Gruff Rhys pronounces his name in the northern method, being brought up there despite being born in Hwylffordd. As a southerner with Rhys as a middle name, I pronounce it differently. GarethRhys 20:36, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
NPOV?! Leberquesgue 23:00, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- On northern vs southern: you're probably right that we should give the former. garik (talk) 19:03, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Unique?
[edit]"Rhys plays the guitar in a unique style. He is left handed and learnt to play on his brothers right handed guitar. Rather than invert the nut and re-string it he taught himself to play a right handed guitar upside down so the bass strings are on the bottom."
Is this unique? I can't actually remember any names, but I'm sure I've heard of other left-handed guitar gods playing right-handed. Lfh (talk) 13:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- I recently read an interview with Gruff where he said he's actually right-handed but learnt to play on his brother's left-handed guitar and didn't bother to learn how to play a right-handed guitar the "proper" way. However, as I know nothing about guitars, I'm not sure if this means he now plays a right-handed guitar upside down as he learnt to play as if he was left-handed or if he plays a left-handed guitar upside down to emulate a right-handed guitar. Anyone got any ideas? Here's a pic... [1] is that a left-handed or right-handed guitar? And is he holding it as if he is left-handed or right-handed? She'sGotSpies (talk) 20:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the picture! The bass strings are clearly on the bottom, so I'm pretty sure that's an upside-down, right-handed guitar - and the article is correct. But I wonder if anyone else plays it like that. Lfh (talk) 13:05, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Not the original SFA vocalist
[edit]It should be mentioned that he wasn't the original singer of Super Furry Animals, Rhys Ifans was. --Jameboy (talk) 08:15, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
