Religious house
[edit]In an article from 1896, a 'Mr. Mooney' speaks of the history of on Leixlip, the columnist for Carlow Nationalist writes; "in the 15th and 16th centuries, this was a religious house, and there was a grant of it to the Abbey of St. Thomas. Amongst the privileges enjoyed were a certain number of flagons of ale from "every brewer in the town of Leixlip." There must have been many brewers there then, and he believed portions of the buildings in the town now called the brewery was the foundation of Guinness's brewery (applause)."[1]
This section was removed by another editor, however, the talk still did take place and they did speak of the building's past whether it was a discussion, the context of who 'Mr. Mooney' does not matter that much, so he was a simple civilian? well if he was a mere civilian, the fact people were listening him talk within the brewery itself shows he had some kind of connection and knowledge to the building, especially that the audience gave him an applause.. It would also make complete sense if the building was a religious house seeing as Arthur Price, an archbishop set up shop here and funded the Guinness empire.. I'm leaving this here to leave it for future reference.Hogyncymru (talk) 03:41, 26 December 2022 (UTC) Hogyncymru (talk) 03:41, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have not made any modification but I have some doubts about these two paragraphs:
"As Distillers was worth more than Guinness plc, the Guinness family shareholding in the merged company went below 10 per cent, and today no member of the family sits on the board. Guinness acquired the Distillers Company in 1986.[10]
The company merged with Grand Metropolitan in 1997, to form Diageo plc, capitalised in 2006 at about 40 billion euros.[11] Although not officially fully taken over, the Guinness family still owns 51 per cent of the brewery. The Guinness brewery in Park Royal, London closed in 2005. The production of all Guinness sold in the UK and Ireland was switched to St. James's Gate Brewery Dublin.[12] "
How could the Guinness family still owns 51% of the brewery when no member of the family sits on the board? Maybe the first paragraph could be expanded and better explained. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kennytanms (talk • contribs) 08:42, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
