Technical article
[edit]This article could do with a less technical introduction to put context to it. 103.254.5.99 (talk) 20:17, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hello there! Any chances, please, for describing briefly what's the most confusing to you? In other words, what exactly should be additionally described? The trouble is that going too deeply into, for example, the way PHP works internally starts to clash with purpose of the PHP article. Please advise. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 09:12, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: No consensus to move. One nominator in support, one opposer, two listing periods. The reasoning is fairly OK on both sides, so it's a no consensus. (non-admin closure) — Amakuru (talk) 22:14, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
HipHop Virtual Machine → ? – The project has been renamed to simply HHVM and "HipHop" is mostly scrubbed and only HHVM is used in all new documentation and promotional materials. See http://hhvm.com --Relisted. — Amakuru (talk) 09:37, 25 February 2015 (UTC) 80.169.25.242 (talk) 22:59, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose: HHVM is an initialism and it's surely going to be used on many web pages where space is premium (especially when repeated multiple times); though, it still stands for "HipHop Virtual Machine", which is also more descriptive as an article title. At the same time, HipHop Virtual Machine goes along with another article, HipHop for PHP. Speaking of guidelines, there doesn't seem to be enough reasons for WP:COMMONNAME to be applied to "HHVM", at least not enough to satisfy requirements for WP:TITLEFORMAT, in particular WP:NATURAL and WP:ACRONYMTITLE. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 02:00, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Move unopposed. — Andy W. (talk) 05:33, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
HipHop Virtual Machine → HHVM – According to conversations at the #hhvm connect IRC channel, the official name is "just HHVM" and encouraged us to use HHVM. The previous request was unsuccessful, so, to be consistent with the other Wikipedias that named the article as HHVM, and as it is the official name, I suggest the renaming again. Updates
[edit]Sorry, I'm not seeing the 'correct' way to do these changes:
- stable version is now 3.28.1: https://hhvm.com/blog/2018/08/30/hhvm-3.28.1.html
- the frontend (lexer through bytecode emitter) - "HackC" 0 is now written in OCaml: https://github.com/facebook/hhvm/tree/master/hphp/hack/src/hhbc https://hhvm.com/blog/2018/05/07/hhvm-3.26.html ; https://hhvm.com/blog/2018/08/28/hhvm-3.28.0.html mentions the removal of the old frontend
- components written in OCaml are under the MIT license, not Zend+PHP: https://github.com/facebook/hhvm/blob/master/hphp/hack/LICENSE https://hhvm.com/blog/2018/04/11/relicensing-hack.html
