Fact disputed

[edit]

Regarding this excerpt from the History Section:

The original organization of Harper County was one of the largest frauds in county government. In 1873, a group of three men organized Harper County, designating the then fictitious city of "Bluff City" as the county seat. The petition for organization used several names out of a Cincinnati telephone directory to represent as residents of Harper County.[dubious – discuss] In 1874, the state attorney general investigated, and found not a single resident of the county. The "founders" of the county had sold $40,000 worth of bonds.[4]

This contradicts the article on Telephone directory, specifically:

The first telephone directory, consisting of a single piece of cardboard, was issued on 21 February 1878; it listed 50 businesses in New Haven, Connecticut that had a telephone.[4]

So if the first telephone directory appeared in 1878 in Connecticut, how could the Kansas settlers have used a directory from Cincinnati that was dated even earlier?- Gilliam (talk) 04:42, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
