Kanagawa convention[edit]

Beasley identifies Hayashi Noboru's signature on the Japanese translation of the Dutch text of the agreement negotiated by Perry.<:ref>Beasley, William. (1955) Select Documents of Japanese Foreign Policy, 1853-1968, pp. 119-120 n2.</ref> Other sources like Cullen indicate that Hayashi Akira was the bakufu negotiator at this time.<:ref>Sewall, John.
