Merger Discussion
[edit]Request received to merge articles: Mental health of Filipino Americans into Health of Filipino Americans; dated: May 2019.
Proposer's Rationale: Both articles arose from a post-secondary assignment related to Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/University of Illinois at Chicago/Introduction to Filipino American Studies (Spring). Both editors Apaloma (talk · contribs) & Zvande3 (talk · contribs) created articles, and have largely stopped editing Wikipedia. Since then (2017), Malinaccier (talk · contribs) has been the largest contributor to the Mental health article, and the Health article has been improved most by Cibasan (talk · contribs). One (mental health) can be argued to be a sub-topic of the other (health), and both are sub-topics to the Filipino American article, which already has several sub-articles due to it being of sufficient article size to warrant that need. As neither are WP:TOOBIG, I propose that the articles be merged. This might impact the work of Jsumera (talk · contribs) who has been assigned this article for Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/UC Berkeley/Global Poverty and Practice (Spring 2019). I am notifying appropriate wikiprojects of this proposal to be transparent per WP:CANVASS. RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 01:16, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

- Maybe not. They're not "too big", but neither are they "too small". I don't really see a significant benefit to merging these. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:45, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- No. I agree that the articles are not big, but they are not small. I am also working on adding a significant number of sources and adding more information in each section of this wiki article. Jsumera (talk) 06:54, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
- As it stands if both articles were to be merged right now, it would create a single article of about 38k in size. For the health article (presently 27.7k), unless the addition of additional reliable sources and information would push the Health article alone to 60k, I am not seeing a strong reason not to merge the articles together.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 06:50, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- We don't have a minimum size, and User:Jsumera is still working on expanding the other article. I think that effort is itself a strong reason not to merge anything for at least the next couple of months. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:51, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
