Can't we find something more typical ? He was a heart-throb. -- Beardo 01:11, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

Some English clown keeps adding rubbish to the intro.

Six fingers and toes?

[edit]

If that's all he had, then I'm surprised they removed any! If the original writer meant that he had 6 toes on each foot, and 6 fingers on each hand, it should be reworded. Perhaps using the term polydactyl. I'd do it myself, but I can't confirm that it's true.Snorgle 14:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TV appearance trivia

[edit]

I saw that someone added that he had appeared on the West Wing, and when I checked at IMDB, it appeared to be true, so I just added a bit more information.Snorgle 15:26, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also appeared on Magnum PI as an English Colonel who slaughtered a tribe in the African war. He was the target of retribution at Robins nest. Conrad of Higgins. 1986. 1dane koa (talk) 05:33, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Career

[edit]

"He had starred in a number of films until 1987 when he made few major film appeareances until the turn of the Millennium." wtf does this mean?? Saintmesmin (talk) 13:37, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the same question I was going to ask - what the hell happened to the nineties? There's ten years missing from his biography. JohnHarris (talk) 01:25, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In reference to high praise for his portrayal of Saul in NBC's Kings, doesn't the citation offered blame McShane for instances of the series faltering and make an allusion to chewing the scenery? Alfredo.Delgado (talk) 23:36, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Additional TV highlights.

[edit]

I had just finished going through 3 seasons of Deadwood. I inserted a DVD and low and behold there he was in the second chapter titled "Sauce for the Goose" in Anthony Perkins hosting "Chillers" (1990 (I guess) TV series). McShane was Steven (Stephen) Castle a suave and down and out singer seemingly on his last legs. He meets up with a lonely housewife whose husband has a serious back problem and gives here no attention. Then 'head over heels' in awe of the Night Club crooner, she murders her husband and marries the singer. A Typical British 'who-dunnit' mysteries (but no chiller here). The DVD credits Crown Media et al. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.174.80.108 (talk) 23:22, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Should we mention Game of Thrones in the lead

[edit]

I believe we should since it is the biggest thing he has done and what he is most known for. It does not matter if it was only one episode. He gained more fame from that role than anything he has ever done. I mean just search his name on Google and Youtube and you will se for yourself that Game of Thrones comes up. This is what he's internationelly known for and it would be a shame to not mention the peak of his career in the lead. - AffeL (talk) 10:14, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Per this google search Game Of Thrones isn't even listed. That said it shouldn't be in the lead. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 10:17, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The fifth and seventh link is about Game of Thrones. - AffeL (talk) 10:20, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said the search I posted above is straight to his TV and Movies he's known for. Not links, GoT is not listed. He is better known for Deadwood then he is GoT Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 10:25, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you finally started a discussion, but you are so very wrong. He has had a career of over half a century, with over a hundred roles across both television and films, and that was all before that one television series. He was known worldwide for so much before it was even announced that he would make an appearance; I mean, just look at this version of the article, before he was announced for the role. One episode is most definitely not the biggest thing he has done, he has stared in so much more than what is basically a guest or cameo appearance. I find you extremely biased on the topic, what with your fanboy tendencies towards any article related to the series. Google results are based on your own search results, that's why when I search for Ian McShane, all I see is American Gods, meaning that Google and YouTube are most certainly not reliable sources. -- AlexTW 10:20, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
More people have seen that one episode of GoT than anything else he has done, just look at the ratings. - AffeL (talk) 10:23, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ratings have zero affect on the topic or why a series should be added to the lead, and you have zero sources to back up your claim. Unless you do? If you don't acknowledge this comment in your reply, I will safely assume that you do not. Again: look at this version of the article, before he was announced for the role. He was in so much more before appearing in that one episode of some typical show. He's been active since 1962. And you think Game of Thrones changes that? No. -- AlexTW 10:27, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Game of Thrones is the highest rated show/film he has done. (Source:https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/ian_mcshane/) - AffeL (talk) 12:55, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And again: Ratings have zero affect on the topic or why a series should be added to the lead. One episode had one high rating. And? I like soup at winter. They're both as irrelevant to the article I note how you ignore the rest of the arguments. -- AlexTW 12:58, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
By ratings, i'm talking about viewership and critic ratings. Also I don't know what him being active since 1962 has to do with any thing. He has gained the most mainstream success and notability from GoT, not from a cancelled HBO show or other stuff no one has heard of. He has even been nominated for an award for his role in GoT. - AffeL (talk) 13:10, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No. He has not gained notability from the episode he was in. That is simply your fanboy tendencies talking, especially when you call his other works "other stuff no one has heard of". Get out with that. He got one award? Wow. He got seven for Deadwood. -- AlexTW 13:12, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
He has zero nomination for Lovejoy and American Gods, but yet those shows are mentioned in the lead. - AffeL (talk) 13:14, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
He starred as the titular character in Lovejoy, and he also stars in American Gods which has a singular episode so of course he doesn't have nominations for it (seriously?). Your arguments still have no basis. Remind me of when he had a starring role in Game of Thrones? -- AlexTW 13:18, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's not about how big his role is, the thing is that more people has seen his small cameo in GoT than anything else he has done. Since Game of Thrones is like the biggest show ever. - AffeL (talk) 15:58, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It is still a relatively minor role and not what he is best known for. The lead should mention only the most defining roles and what he is notable for. The other roles mentioned in the lead are major starring roles that define his career. GoT is jarringly out of place there. Geraldo Perez (talk) 16:22, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Except that AffeL believes it's not, and because Game of Thrones is apparently "the biggest show in the entire world", it's McShane's biggest role ever. Typical fanboy at play, there's really nothing more to see here. -- AlexTW 23:23, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is already mentioned. I didn't know what this March 1980 ITV drama was about, there is some detail about it here.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:49, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
