"Menzu"

I'm not a linguist, but I think "Menzu" may not come from the English "Men", but from the Dutch "Mens" (human).

Considering the history between the Netherlands and Japan and the fact that there are many loanwords in Japanese that come from Dutch (think of Ponzu) there is a not insignificant likelyhood.

I have no way to confirm this, it's mostly that men and mens have similar meaning, but the "zu" of menzu makes me think it could be from mens. Ench Wraits (talk) 22:25, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

LGBTQ

Can someone explain to me the LGBTQ categories and patterns in the article? The article makes no mention of the term's connection to queer culture, and as far as I remember, it's just a common Japanese term for handsome and impressive men. Yes, there is a term “ikemen onna” objectively associated with queer culture (androgynous women with ikemen appearance, a common archetype in Japanese lesbian and bisexual culture), but there is not a word about this in the article.
