Carcinogenic?[edit]

Since this plant/herb is a relative of Yerba mate is it carcinogenic like Yerba mate apparently is? Yerba mate however is carcinogenic only when consumed in very large amounts and when consumed scalding in the traditional way it is in south and central America. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.102.154 (talk) 00:56, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

The carcinogenic compounds in yerba mate likely come from the drying process which use smoke from the burning of wood. In contrast, ilex guayusa is dried without burning wood, as dryers are used.[1] Thus, it is unlikely that guayusa is carcinogenic like mate. I $ore9515 (talk) 16:37, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

If you develop a lasting cough from drinking any tea, whether scalding hot or not, stop drinking it! The development of a chronic cough is the first indicator that the product is an irritant. --IO Device (talk) 17:01, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Commercialization[edit]

The Commercialization section reads like a private company's product promotion. On that basis I am going to parse it into an essential sentence or two on commercial value, and snip out the numerous references to what appears to be a single company's efforts at free advertizing on Wikipedia.giggle 14:17, 16 February 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gregory.george.lewis (talkcontribs)
