I've just reworked this article extensively and would like someone who knows what their talking about to review it so that this Yank hasn't screwed up references to chartered engineers, or blown off some important event or thought. Thank you for your time and attention. MARussellPESE 05:21, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of Presidents[edit]

Just a thought: would it be better to split off the list of presidents of the ICE to a seperate page? The list at the moment adds little to the article, it could be seperated off to its own page with a comprehensive list of presidents (there's a few early presidents missing and a gap between 1944 and 1973) to act as a complete reference for interested people. The more notable presidents such as Telford, Stephenson, Bazalgette could be duplicated here as an example of famous presidents whilst a link is maintained to the comprehensive list. This list could also include the secretaries and treasurers if deemed encyclopedic content, I have The Civils by Garth Watson as I suspect many people do so the data is there (the later ones can be filled in from elsewhere) but am unsure if it is encyclopedic enough. Just a few ideas, let me know what you think. Dumelow 12:56, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would be a good idea. -- Kvetner 18:57, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have created the new page at List of Presidents of the Institution of Civil Engineers, added a link to it on the ICE page and moved the list since 1973 over there until I can add it to the table.Dumelow 15:30, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The current list of 'greatest engineers' is a bit arbitrary. Doubtless, some like Telford, Stephenson and Bazalgette are major figures; some of the others put their names to what became major firms. I wonder if there should be a 'rule of thumb' for inclusion in this short listing? Paul W (talk) 17:37, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ICE Publishing[edit]

The ICE has sold the assets of it's publishing division so this section needs a rework. Someone with more time may be able to do this.

Coat of arms[edit]

Hi all - coat of arms is missing everything except the shield. The ref link [31] is dead - reverse image search of web does not reveal source of image in the article. Burnt Toast 97 (talk) 15:32, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've updated the sources and managed to find 2 good ones. I think that the image was created by @Robin S. Taylor. I've pinged him to see if he fancies updating it to include everything, although that looks like quite a challenge! I'm not an expert on copyright but I think that it would be hard to find a copyright free image we could use. RicDod (talk) 20:04, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for finding a better source. Whenever I upload a heraldic illustration I have to make the decision as to whether I should attempt the entire achievement or just do the shield. I went for the latter option in this case. Regarding copyright - the general policy on Wikimedia is to treat the text of the blazon as not meeting the threshold of originality, and each illustration of a blazon as being the copyright of the person who drew it. Thanks for the reply. My original post was badly phrased, I meant that we would find it hard to find an image online that we could use. RicDod (talk) 19:16, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
