Shortest?

I wondered why Interstate 66 is not considered the shortest interstate that connects two states. Is it because Washington, D.C. is not a "state," per se? Regardless, it does cross a state line. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 05:16, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

POV

I didn't remove it, but this text seems a little outside NPOV:

Would be nice to see this extended maybe into Missouri or even Tennessee. This would help allivate massive traffic on I-40 for travels northeastward to St. Louis or points north. Since I-69 may eliminate some from the Houston area and south, something out of Dallas/Little Rock needs one too.

The paragraph is a statement of opinion, not a statement of fact. Many Interstate highway pages have this problem, though many address the issue by prefixing such a comment with a phrase like "Some highway mavens would like to see..."

I may post this issue at the Village Pump at some point in the future. Any strong opinions, please post here or on my talk page. --Robertb-dc 21:41, 21 Jan 2004 (UTC)

This paragraph is an opinion... I agree. There is a better way to post this, which sounds unencyclopedic.--Rschen7754 21:04, 31 August, 2005 (UTC)

Lane counts

So is there an "official" way to count lanes? I.E., "I-30 from I-635 to Rockwall was widened from 6 to 10 lanes in the 1990s." What consistutes a "lane?" To me, 10 lanes means there are 5 lanes going one direction (on the actual freeway), and 5 lanes going the other direction. I have lived in Rowlett, Texas since 2005, which is right before Rockwall (and I frequently make trips into Rockwall), and nowhere along I-30 between 635 and Rockwall has there ever been 5 lanes going in either direction in the last 9 years. At best, there are 8 lanes (4 in either direction). I can't speak to how it was in the 90s, so I can't say about the 6 lanes that statement claims were once there, but until someone refutes and explains how that could be considered a 10-lane highway, I am modifying the 10 to an 8. (You can bring up Google Maps street view to validate what I am saying). P shadoh (talk) 17:10, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

TxDOT might have a document saying so, and we should try to find it, but citing the aerial photography from Google Maps should suffice in the interim. –Fredddie 00:03, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Proposed split

Since this article doesn't meet the exit list criteria, I'm suggesting that the article be split (not a total split) into Interstate 30 in Texas and Interstate 30 in Arkansas. Also, I recommend that the normal junction table be remodeled into a JCT table, since the highway is a freeway. HeatIsCool (talk) 22:27, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

  • I am moderately opposed to splitting. First, the article itself is not very long - the separate Texas and Arkansas sections are only a few sentences each. What's making the page pretty cumbersome is the Exit List section. If anything, I think that needs to be pared down or that section only be split off into something like a Interstate 30 exits article - I would defer to someone more experienced with roadway articles. I'd love if someone from the U.S. Roads WikiProject chimed in. Second, as Admrboltz mentioned in your talk page, "it is customary in the U.S. Roads WikiProject to only split national-level articles when the highway passes through 3+ states. As I-30 only enters TX and AR, no state-level article would be created." -P shadoh (talk) 23:18, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. @P shadoh: is on the right track. Typically, a route this short (remember, I-90 is over 3100 miles long) would only get one article. Even if we did merge away the Texas and Arkansas sections, this article would remain as a summary of the two articles. –Fredddie 00:00, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose per the three-state rule. Interstate 8 has a full exit list table for two states and it's not too long. The exit list table that is here is similar in length to the one on Interstate 75 in Michigan, which is a FA. Exit lists should not be split out into separate articles. Imzadi 1979  00:01, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose per WP:USRD/NT#Sub articles. As the only thing that is long on this article is the exit list, both the route description and history are lacking, at this time not enough prose to merit splitting. Dave (talk) 00:03, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose per my original comments and the above. --AdmrBoltz 00:37, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Typically Interstate or U.S. Routes do not get state-detail articles unless they pass through at least three states. Dough4872 01:29, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose Length of article does not justify a split. This page is not too long to navigate, and says just about everything that needs to be said. --Jayron32 01:32, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Opppose per the three-state rule. --hmich176 08:44, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose although you are welcome to try and convince us otherwise by writing enough (notable) material so that the article needs to be split. --Rschen7754 08:48, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose You can create two separate articles but there needs to be one big I 30 article--Ncchild (talk) 05:09, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose - the three-state rule, as said above. c16sh (speak up) 04:35, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Non-2dI junctions in infobox

Given that this is a shorter, bi-state 2dI, the additional junctions are perfectly acceptable. There aren't going to be state-based sub articles, so this is also more like single-state sub articles as well. I'd suggest comparisons with other bi-state or intrastate 2dI articles like Interstate 43 or Interstate 96 than long-distance 2dIs like Interstate 20 or Interstate 30. The only true limit on junctions in an infobox comes from WP:USRD/STDS where we limit to 8–10 junctions, so for those longer highways, yes, we do limit to 2dIs, but for shorter examples, other junctions are acceptable. Business Loop I-30

There was also a Business Loop I-30 at Little Rock, Arkansas but I need to check my files to find the dates. US 71 (talk) 02:15, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
