Counter arguments to Jared Diamond's hypotheseis aren't explored

I feel that the fact that only Jared Diamond's theory about why the plant was abandoned as a crop (some people have claimed that other domesticated plants may have shared the same qualities as the sumpweed prior to their domestication, as stated in the "Guns, Germs and Steel" article) should be addressed.
