a 2+12-year contract

[edit]

User:Walter Görlitz changed this to "a two-and-a-half year contract". When a compound modifier that consists of a number and "year" modifies "contract", as in "a two-year contract", it needs a hyphen before "year". Same with "a two-and-a-half year contract"; there should be a hyphen before "year". Instead of just adding a hyphen to make a string of five words hyphenated, I also followed MOS:FRAC, which says "Mixed numbers are usually given in figures ...". Also, Wikipedia's style generally favors conciseness, so I thought it was a double improvement. Chris the speller yack 05:56, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was debating changing it to months, but that's not much better. Thanks for pointing me to FRAC. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:13, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
