"DAME" Judith Keppel
[edit]In the 2008 Eggheads' Series 10, Celebrity Eggheads Series 1, Charity episode 1 in an initial head-to-head round, a (journalist) Contestant chose to challenge Ms Keppel whom he named as "Dame Judith". Was this simply a joke (or even his perhaps being sarcastically ironic), or indeed does she rightfully have that British chivalric honour? Also, if she does, since "women are always appointed to an order of chivalry", then which is Dame Judith's Order? 121.127.209.62 (talk) 06:51, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- It's a joke, because she's 'posh'. GedUK 13:08, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles
[edit]In this article about Judith Keppel, the first million pound winner on 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire', it says she is the third cousin once removed of Camilla Parker-Bowles.
I'm not sure that she is 'once removed' from Camilla's generation - I say this without any certainty whatsoever but if the following facts are true (and they may not be), they are third cousins.
In concluding that they are third cousins once removed, the article suggests that she is the great-great-great granddaughter of William Coutts Keppel, 7th Earl of Albemarle (a generation difference of 5).
As far as I understand, Judith Keppel's father is Walter Arnold Crispin Keppel, her grandfather is Walter Egerton George Lucian Keppel (9th Earl of Albemarle), her great grandfather is Arnold Allen Cecil Keppel (8th Earl of Albemarle) and her great-great grandfather is William Coutts Keppel (7th Earl of Albemarle).
Similarly, as far as I understand, Camilla Rosemary Shand's mother is Rosalind Maud Cubitt, her grandmother is Sonia Rosemary Keppel, her great grandfather is George Keppel and her great-great grandfather is William Coutts Keppel (7th Earl of Albemarle).
This would therefore make them both third cousins because they share the same great-great grandparents.
The article suggests (without doing in so many words) that Judith's father and Camilla are third cousins - but Judith's father is the great grandson of William Coutts Keppel (if the above facts are true - and they might not be) whereas Camilla is his great-great grandson - making them second cousins once removed.
They would only be third cousins once removed if William Coutts Keppel, 7th Earl of Albemarle was the great-great-great grandfather of Judith Keppel and the great-great grandfather of Camilla Parker-Bowles - which is exactly what the article is suggesting.
What exactly is the relationship between Judith Keppel and William Coutts Keppel (7th Earl of Albemarle)? Is he her great-great grandfather or have I missed out a family generation link?
I have heard from many different sources that they are third cousins once removed but having looked into it myself, I'm not too sure.
Kind regards,
Standingfish.

- Hi Standingfish - I have researched this at thePeerage.com, and it according to that you are correct. I have therefore updated the articles on Judith Keppel, Camilla Parker Bowles and William Coutts Keppel, 7th Earl of Albemarle to reflect this new informaiton (with source). If anyone has any different information then please provide refs accordingly. Cheers — SteveRwanda 10:29, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
The personal life section of the article currently states that Judith's great-grandfather was Camilla's great-uncle, then states that the relationship of the two women is third cousins. However, that is a contradiction: if Camilla is Judith's great-grandfather's great-niece, they would be second cousins once removed. That would, on the family tree, be: up three, across, down two. Third cousins is: up three, across, down three. F W Nietzsche (talk) 18:27, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- You can check using either thePeerage.com or printed copies of Burke's Peerage that Judith Keppel's great-grandfather and the Duchess of Cornwall's great-grandfather were brothers. So the two women are third cousins. -- Oliver P. (talk) 02:28, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
Controversy
[edit]Was there not something in the controversy involving one of her questions appearing earlier in the day on fifteen-to-one? I can't remember the specifics, but think it's relevant.LaFoiblesse (talk) 21:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
If it did appear earlier that day (20 November 2000) on "Fifteen to One", this would not have been able to influence in any way the outcome of the "Millionaire" show, which is prerecorded anyway. Indeed, both shows are probably prerecorded, on different dates, and therefore the time that they air in the public domain is, to all intents and purposes, irrelevant.
The view that Judith Keppel's win was in some way rigged is highly specious. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chriseccles2 (talk • contribs) 22:03, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Groomed for marriage rather than a career
[edit]Sounds like the language of a Jane Austen novel! "Although she took A-levels and completed a secretarial course, she was groomed for marriage, rather than a career" it suggests the appalling concept of Judith having no say in the direction of her life at all, it was decided for her. Totally unacceptable for an objective encyclopaedic work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.149.24.48 (talk) 15:24, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Wolverhampton - the correct county please
[edit]West Midlands county did not exist prior to 1st April 1974. Therefore the correct county before that date is Staffordshire. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.51.149.75 (talk) 22:23, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
