I just read the memories 'Kang, Chol-Hwan (2001). The Aquariums of Pyongyang. Basic Books, 2001. ISBN 0-465-01102-0' translated to finnish language from original french writing. It was the second edition published in 2010 ISBN 978-952-234-015-3.

The book admited that: - "Life was brutal in the camp.[ citation needed ]" - "Death from starvation or exposure to the elements was a constant threat, and beatings and other punishments were routine.[ citation needed ]" - "His education consisted almost solely of memorizing the sayings and speeches of Kim Il-sung[citation needed]"; - "at 15 his education ceased and he was assigned to exhausting and dangerous work details, and was made to view public executions[ citation needed ]."

The book didn't tell anything about what happened to his family in North Korea after he escaped. The family contained: - Sister Mi-ho - Mother. She newer been in camp because the security system forced to take divorce from their father. The family of the mother saved her because her family was "hero-family". - Uncle - Aunt

'"In 2011, it was revealed[ citation needed ][ dubious – discuss ] that his sister Mi-ho and her 11-year old son are believed to have returned to Yodok.[ citation needed ][ dubious – discuss ]"'

The whole book didn't tell anything about the son. The style of live was so different in North Korea that he got cultural chock in China and in South Korea where womens were so open. It gave a picture that he wasn't ready for anykind of dating or have sex before in China when he first time saw "open mind women" in culture what allowed such as actions. In North Korean Culture family forces their child to marry someone who is okay to them. North Korean culture didn't even know such as term like cohabitation.

Kang was born in 1969 and get into camp when he was 9, at 1977. He got freed 17.2.1989. He escaped from country in 1992. He also told that any sexual activity was extremely forbidden. Kang also told in the book that if there were any child to born guards take the baby away and propably killed the baby because enemies of the state couldn't continue their family. He also admited that there were one exception.

So, when the 11 years old son did ever born? Did he were 11 years old in '92 or later when book was published in 2000. It means the boy was born in 1989 when he born just after he freeding. I doubth that there weren't any son who was left North Korea. Because: Kand didn't told any son in book and he didn't mention any women who was with him in any relation ship after freeding exept his sister. Later in China the smuggler who helped him and his friend to escape to tried to marry him to his step-daughter but he didn't agreed. In South Korea Kang was worried to how he could to marry anyone because in South Korea the marriage combines both families instead of persons. Atleast I'd like to see source where is told about his son.

All of those information was from book and can be confirmed. I would like to do the fixes but as you see. English isn't my natural language and I don't know how to fix "citation needed" things. 212.226.72.58 (talk) 00:49, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
