Noela GLASSON age[edit]

The age of Noela Glasson is WRONG by 10 years. She was born 1894, was therefore seven years OLDER than Kenneth Slessor and was 28 years old when married115.70.48.249 (talk) 07:58, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Noela's NSW births, deaths, and marriages registration number says 1894, but she was actually born on 25 December 1893.–Q8682 (talk) 07:11, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Herbert Edward Glasson (1867–1893)[edit]

I hate loose ends. Presumably there was more to Herbert Glasson than being convicted of murder. Where did he come from? Did he have a trade? Whom did he kill? What was his sentence? It would be satisfactory for the article to say that nothing is known of Gkasson. Humpster (talk) 22:00, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Herbert Edward 'Bertie' GLASSON @ Edward Herbert GLASSON @ Edwin Hubert GLASSON was son of Henry GLASSON of the Carcoar area of NSW (west of Sydney).[1] He got married on 18 January 1893 to Annie May Colette SUMMERBELLE.[2] For the date of 17 September 1893, Annie would later testify that he complained of pains of a headache, and feared he may have had sunstroke and was going mad.[3] He had a number of debts,[1] including owing his lodgers at the Hotel Metropole, Sydney.
At 2:30 am 24 September 1893, after coming from Sydney to Carcoar the day before, GLASSON went upstairs of the City Bank with a tomahawk, and killed bank manager Mr John William PHILLIPS and Miss Frances Letitia CAVANAGH (aged 24), and severely injured PHILLIPS' wife, Annie Dorothy PHILLIPS,[4] and injured baby Gladys PHILLIPS.[1] GLASSON and PHILLIPS knew each other through the bank transactions.
There was a suggestion of insanity,[5] and a plea of not guilty (evidence also being led that GLASSON's mother had been previously diagnosed with insanity, suggesting a family condition). He also claimed that he had been drugged by others at the time.
He was found guilty, sentenced to death, held at the Bathurst Gaol, and was hung on the morning of Wednesday, 29 November 1893.[6]
Interestingly this was one month before daughter Noela was born, yet no newspaper entries appear to suggest that wife Annie was 'in the motherly way'. So Noela was raised without ever knowing her father, yet kept his name and any associated stigma.
I will tend to the article shortly with a short amendment.–Q8682 (talk) 07:11, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
