Winners' table

[edit]

I have added information for the 39th Kioh (2014). I have also added the column "No." to the winners' table because the Japan Shogi Association (JSA) does not use calendar years to identify or count major title matches. It uses ordinal numbers and either the counter word kai () or ki () instead to refer to the title match by the number of "times" or "periods" it has been held to date. For example, the most recent Kioh Match held in February 2014 between Watanabe (the reigning Kioh) and Miura (the challenger) is officially referred to as the "39th Kioh (Title) Match" (第39期棋王位戦, dai sanjūkyūki kiō sen) and not the "2014 Kioh (Title) Match" because it was the 39th time the match had been held; furthermore, major title holders are referred to in a similar fashion, e.g., the official title of Watanabe is "39th Kioh" (第39期王座, dai sanjūkyūki Kiō) and not "2014 Kioh". Another problem with listing by only calendar years, especially for this tournament, is that the JSA uses it's "business year" (April 1 to March 31) for its tournament calendar. So, even though the 39th Kioh Match took place in 2014, the JSA considers it to be part of its 2013 tournament calender. - Marchjuly (talk) 23:00, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
