Legislative career

[edit]

Has this guy done NOTHING in two terms in the legislature? The entire article is about his career as a pumpkin-bouncer. [Full disclosure: he represents my home district, more or less the one in which I was the 1974 Democratic nominee.] --Orange Mike | Talk 14:15, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Orangemike: As I observed the article, I recognize that you are fully correct in your assessment, and your concern certainly reflects our undue weight standards. It is very hard for someone to be in a political position for four years and do exactly nothing in the meantime. Even the lazy politicians do "something" at "some point". Haston's political career does deserve more coverage on this page. His basketball career was/is arguably catchier, especially considering his connections to Bobby Knight; but his status as a Tennessee state congressman perhaps has greater influence. Besides, with him never exceeding four points or five rebounds in a game and averaging a minuscule five minutes per game while playing roughly a dozen games in both his seasons, Haston is not the most memorable NBA player.
I have added a tidbit about him being Vice President of the House Education Committee, and that is a good start. But yeah, the information about his political career is still lacking here. One way I can fix this issue is by inserting an electoral history table or two, which I will be working on over the next few days.
One page I would like for you to look at is that of Chris Dudley, who, like Haston, has been both an NBA player and a politician. I believe it is a strong example of an article for which this one can follow (disclaimer: I have heavily contributed to that page).
I appreciate your feedback, and the page will be expanded in the near future. And one last note: your "pumpkin-bouncer" quip is hilarious.

My critique was about the article, not the politician, even though he and I are on polar opposites of the spectrum (part of why I've lived in Wisconsin rather than in this district for over 45 years). --Orange Mike | Talk 16:55, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Orangemike: No worries, I understood that and I did not take it as you criticizing the politician himself. I know you were, with full validity, pointing out this article's skeletal coverage of his political career and not trying to imply him as a lame duck. (Also, I personally have little stake in Tennessee politics, as I have never lived there and have only visited once, maybe twice.)
Your critique is very helpful in inspiring improvement in this page, and is much appreciated. Mungo Kitsch (talk) 20:42, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Political career - expulsion opinion

[edit]

i see someone put he supported the expulsion of two lawmakers but the link is broken and there is no supporting information.

I'm quite certain he was not present for the votes that day. I believe he was at his grandfather's funeral if that matters. But there's no information on what his opinions were to my research. 172.56.209.125 (talk) 02:13, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
