Thanks; I've put it in the "External Links" section. Grover cleveland 13:04, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wording issue

[edit]

"He conducted such orchestras as......" Probably quite unintentionally it comes across (as a second sentence of an article) as pretty patronising to some good bands and suggests Tennstedt was somehow not quite a first-class conductor. Not a widely-held opinion. Why not include his permanent appointment with the LPO earlier? Delahays (talk) 13:37, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Current version seems OK?? DBaK (talk) 20:37, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discography

[edit]

The discography link currently goes to an all-Japanese site that seems to be mostly about sumo wrestling. No time to try to fix it, but maybe someone else can volunteer. It might be nice to include a quote or two from some respected source about the characteristics of his conducting, which were pretty unusual (emotional and subjective), and seem to leave knowledgeable writers either profoundly moved or dubious, so opposing views could add a lot to the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.86.206.22 (talk) 23:56, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dodging the draft though historically informed performance?

[edit]

The second sentence under "Life and Career" is remarkable: "He avoided military service during the Nazi era by joining a Baroque orchestra." This could use a little explaining, perhaps. DSatz (talk) 06:45, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree – sorry about the rushed reply! – it does seem utterly bizarre. The worst thing, though, is that it's in the ref! (That is, his obit in the Independent.) So if we do, as we should, Verifiability over Truth, Common Sense, etc, then we're stuck with it. I do hope that we might be able to find, perhaps within the next three years, something which sheds a bit of light on this seemingly very unlikely statement.
