cardamon?[edit]

My grandaunt's recipe for Klejner had cardamon in it. Is that an optional ingredient? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SimplyIrresistible (talkcontribs) 08:48, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

According to what is typically regarded as the "bible" of traditional Danish cooking, Ms Jensen's Cookbook (Frøken Jensens Kogebog), the ingredients for about 40 klejner are:
• 1 egg
• 60 g of sugar
• the zest of one lemon
• 75 g butter or margarine
• 1/4 teaspoon of ammonium bicarbonate
• 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom
• 250 g of flour (read: "ordinary" wheat flour)
• 1 tablespoon of cream
So yes, the Danish version can fairly safely be assumed to include cardamom.
PS. I'm referring to 6th or 2002 edition of this classic cookbook which was first published in 1901. It's one of two cookbooks found in pretty much every Danish home. The other is Good Food - Easy to Cook (God Mad - Let at Lave), sometimes known as "Havemand" after one of its original authors, Lotte Havemand. It's of more recent origin, being first published in 1973 by the Danish Association of Home Economics Teachers, today part of the Danish Diet & Nutrition Association (http://www.kost.dk/danish-diet-nutrition-association).

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Kleina be merged into Klenät. I think that the content in the Kleina article can easily be explained in the context of Klenät, and the Klenät article is small, so the inclusion of the material under Kleina will not cause any problems. It makes sense to have one single treatment of these Scandinavian pastries. If no serious objections are raised I will consider the merge uncontroversial and will carry it out in accordance with the directions at Wikipedia:Merging. I completely agree. Klenäter, klenor, kleinur, klejner, fattigmenn all seem to be the same dish and, bar the last, indeed the same word. They are all twisted rhomboids of fried dough using the same ingredients. It makes no sense to have separate articles for each of them.
