Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on August 4, 2006.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that 96 tropical cyclones have affected the state of Delaware since 1749?

DYK

[edit]

Has this been suggested to DYK? Titoxd(?!?) 01:22, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I could, but this page is about 8 days old. Hurricanehink (talk) 01:32, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I raised this issue on WP:DYK. The response I got suggests the DYK clock starts at the page move.--Nilfanion (talk) 07:40, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, then, I DYK'd it. Hurricanehink (talk) 12:43, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I came to say the same thing... Titoxd(?!?) 19:54, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

96 since 1749?

[edit]

Is this list really claiming to be comprehensive for the 1749-present period? Melchoir 19:49, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. What about saying 96 known tropical cyclones, or at least 96 tropical cyclones have affected Delaware? Hurricanehink (talk) 19:50, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I like "at least". "Known" would imply that we're drawing from an authoritative source that says "96", so it would still need a quote. Melchoir 20:11, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I don't support the change for the intro. You need to bold the title, and now there is no title in the intro. Hurricanehink (talk) 19:57, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The most important consideration is WP:NOR: an article must not define new terms. Everything else is just style. You're welcome to figure out how to bold the relevant words, but please don't make assertions like "A Delaware hurricane is...". Melchoir 20:16, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The following is a list of tropical cyclones that affected Delaware, might be sufficient.--Nilfanion (talk) 20:19, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll throw that in. Melchoir 20:23, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is that better? Hurricanehink (talk) 20:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Whoops, you beat me to it! Yeah, the only complaint I can anticipate with the new version is that it doesn't mention the Atlantic, but that seems implicit, right? Melchoir 20:27, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Yea, the Atlantic is more or less implied. Hurricanehink (talk) 20:29, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Now explicit. Titoxd(?!?) 23:39, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Todo

[edit]

I know I just published it, but what more is needed to consider an FLC run? Hurricanehink (talk) 20:31, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The track maps Hink :P Wait for me to make them, its a little tricky as Delaware is a small state.--Nilfanion (talk) 20:33, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yea. Anything besides that, though? Hurricanehink (talk) 20:43, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, is it fine that the whole thing is in present tense? Hurricanehink (talk) 23:42, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricane Force Winds

[edit]

From the intro: "only three storms since 1851 caused hurricane-force winds in the state." Then as you proceed you find another section that lists the following storms have caused hurricane-force winds in Delaware: The Gale of 1878 (shown as unnamed), The Vagabond Hurricane (shown as unnamed), Hurricane Irene, and Hurricane Sandy. So are we at 4 now and the intro needs to be changed or is Hurricane Sandy incorrect? Superman7515 (talk) 02:57, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, that fell through the cracks a bit. Neither actually produced hurricane force winds while still a tropical cyclone. Irene was a TS at the time (only produced hurricane force winds in North Carolina), and Sandy was extratropical at landfall, so it doesn't count. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 14:10, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
