NSDP, not GSDP

This article mentions values of per capita net state domestic product (NSDP) of all states and UTs of India and not per capita GSDP. Most Indian state governments release and submit to the central government ministry, MOSPI only per capita NSDP figures as "per capita income" and not per capita GSDP. A few users have been repeatedly adding per capita GSDP of West Bengal which is obviously higher than it's per capita NSDP and inflates it's ranking in this list. Since per capita GSDP figures are available only for a very few states while we have per capita NSDP figures for each and every state and UT which are also currently being used in this list article, it won't be problematic to keep only per capita NSDP figures for all states and reflect the same in the article's lead section and list columns. A name change of the article can also be done. Right now, I'm just changing GRDP to NSDP in lead section and GDP column. The values currently being mentioned, as I already stated are anyways for per capita NSDP only. They don't require any change. Vibhss (talk) 21:31, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

The source for the data lists both GSDP and NSDP in addition to per capita NSDP. Then it's simple math to calculate per capita GSDP: $Per\,capita\,GSDP=Per\,capita\,NSDP\times {\frac {GSDP}{NSDP}}$

Whether it makes sense to list that - which is harder to verify than per capita NSDP - is another question. Much more concerning, however, is that the list's current data is largely made up. For many states "2019-20" data is reported. It's not 2020 yet, no data for 2020 can have been reported, the source doesn't even given 2018-19 data for most states. The 2019-20 figures seem to be somewhere between "estimates" and "wishful thinking". I'll figure out what happened there and revert to a version which actually has sourced, reasonable information, whether that's per capita GSDP or per capita NSDP. Pinging Vibhss for a second opinion. Map in US$ per capita

There needs to be a map of GDP per capita in US$, which is the global standard. It is impossible for any non-Indian to understand what SGDP per capita in INR means since they have no reference point. Abh9850 (talk) 16:51, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

@Abh9850: Please check my post on this talk page just previous to this discussion. For most of the Indian states and union territories, official data is available for only per capita income or per capita NSDP and not per capita GSDP and the same has been mentioned in this list article. There is a major difference between GSDP and NSDP (state counterparts of national GDP and NDP), if you don't know. And no, it's not mandatory to use a map with US$ values to follow any so called global standard. This article is on per capita income of Indian states and UTs and the official figures for the same are released in Indian currency, i.e. INR only. The choropleth map created by you is anyway incorrect because the unit for GDP in terms of PPP (total and per capita alike) is current international dollar and not US dollar. And all the figures in the article are for NSDP per capita and not GRDP per capita as mentioned by you in the map created by you. Vibhss (talk) 10:33, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

NSDP - any reason?

why is NSDP being used when the page itself is called GDP per capita? extremely misleading, don't you all think. Specially when we have data based on GSDP per capita available on all the state government pages.

all the conversion rates and comparable countries are based on GDP per capita, using NSDP per capita just fudges the data. With a little bit of effort, it's possible to find GSDP per capita figures for all states. Format is breaking sorting

The Indian format of 1,00,000 is breaking the table sorting. When you attempt to sort from largest to smallest, it does not work.  Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. There is no indication that the proposed source is any different from the current sources and no indication why the proposed source should be necessarily better than the Ministry of Statistics. @Eggishorn: Simply because MOSPI is a dead link it does not open any longer. Why don't you try to open that link and check whether its working or not. MOSPI (Ministry of Statistics) is a dead link. Comparable country column

The last column in the first table, entitled 'Indian states and union territories by NSDP per capita', compares Goa's NDSP to Croatia's, and other Indian states to other countries. In the last column, it lists countries whose 2019 NDSP per capita is supposedly comparable with the Indian state in column one of the same row. The last column is entirely unsourced, and I have removed it. The last column was sourced in the past, but the sources did not verify the content.

Here's the story: the table column labeled "IMF Estimated equivalent countries" was first introduced in April 2018 with no sourcing under the label "Comparable country", comparing 'Goa' with 'Azerbaijan', and all the other Indian states with some other country. It has gone through numerous changes since then, the column has been removed and readded, sometimes with a different header (e.g., 'Comparable country (Not adjusted for PPP)' in August 2018 (Goa :: Bulgaria); 'Comparable country by GDP per capita (PPP)' in August 2018; 'Comparable Country (PPP)' in December 2018). By September 2019 it was 'Comparable country by GDP per capita (PPP)', still unsourced (still Goa :: Bulgaria). The article underwent a lot of sockpuppetry and edit warring, which necessitated semi-protection (here and here), and which also affected this column with IPs removing the column numerous times, and regular editors fighting back valiantly against socks, restoring it again (e.g.: 1, 2, 3) ending up with a high, 20.7% revert rate.

By June 2021, the column header was 'IMF Estimated equivalent countries (Nominal) (2021 ₹)' and Goa was compared to 'Belarus'. The column was sourced (possibly for the first time?) in the next edit, citing the IMF World Economic Outlook Database in note 4. However, that IMF source does not mention Goa. In the last version of the article, the col. header is 'Comparable Country (2019 PPP Values)', Goa is compared with Croatia, and the column citation to IMF is gone again.

I have removed the "comparable country" column, because it fails verifiability, and even when it was sourced, the sourcing either did not verify the comparison, or it was invalid original research. I am issuing a formal challenge: do not add or restore "comparable country" data from the IMF (or from any other source) unless the source directly supports the claim; specifically, that it compares the NSDP of an Indian state to a country. Using "Goa" as an example: if the source says that Goan SDP is comparable to the NDP of Croatia (or any other country) then you can add it; if it doesn't, you cannot. Combining data from two sources to establish the comparison is synthesis of published material, and is contrary to the policy of WP:No original research. Separate state based on size

NITI aayog and often other governmental agencies classify states into two: small and larger state. Ranking smaller states as top in GDP per capita makes no sense. States like Goa and Sikkim are only the size of a district. ChandlerMinh (talk) 22:31, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

You would need to provide sources for all four years, and then of course find someone willing to do the work. Or alternatively, of course, you could create an account and do it yourself? Why would the PPP factor be constant across every state at 3.24.
