New article on Murdos - DoBIH table at October 2018
[edit]Surprised that his list did not exist in Wikipedia - it does now. The critical element is that this list is from the best database in the British Isles, the DoBIH. Please do not change or update this data UNLESS you are re-downloading the DoBIH for Murdos. It is important that this table maintains its sourcing as a DoBIH data table as at October 2018, otherwise, it will become unusable (as what happens to many lists of mountains in Wikipedia). If you feel the data is wrong, check the database and contact DoBIH - do not change the table, or else it becomes WP:OR. Britishfinance (talk) 20:26, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

What is a ‘Murdo’?
[edit]Should this not be ‘Munro’ 2A02:C7E:4217:2C00:2888:6574:BCA4:800C (talk) 06:21, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
Lede 2024
[edit]- Removed the bit in bold:
- are defined as Scottish mountains over 3,000 feet (914.4 m) in height, above the general threshold to be called a "mountain" in the British Isles, and with a prominence over 30 metres (98 ft)
- I initially read this as meaning that 3000 feet was the general threshold to be called a mountain, and that a Murdo was any mountain above that threshold. This is kinda the opposite of the intended reading. I don't believe the intended point is worth spelling out at all; certainly it does not belong in the opening sentence.
- "British Isles cartographer" is ambiguous -- is Dawson from the British Isles or does he map only the British Isles? It seems irrelevant in either case so I've dropped "British Isles".
- Integrated footnote about Dawson's motivation into the main text
- "all other Scottish mountain and hill classifications" I presume means only SMC classifications; there are infinitely many ways to classify Scottish mountains and hills, many having nothing to do with height.
- MOS:NUMNOTES Avoid beginning a sentence with a figure
In addition, possibly the first two paragraphs should be merged; I leave that to the discretion of others. jnestorius(talk) 22:48, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
