Suggestion on format

[edit]

I strongly support the effort to accept the tribes' definitions of their members as the legal standard, and the other criteria listed here. This issue probably needs a separate article related to tribal identity among Native Americans in the US, and the same standard should be used for other lists of "Native American" whatevers. It would be helpful - and easier to read- if the different criteria were listed with more space around them: such as paragraphs or bullet points, despite Wiki style supporting full paragraphs. The Elizabeth Warren and Ward Churchill issues have shown people need to understand more about why Native American tribes want to say who is a member - not simply someone "of descent". As noted in the sources on Elizabeth Warren, she did not satisfy federal (or Harvard's, adopted from the Feds) legal guidelines for identification as Native American under diversity/affirmative action programs; that is, enrolled in a tribe, or living as part of a tribal community and recognized by that community. She did not participate in Cherokee life at all, and was not active in any issues related to it. The fact that Harvard claimed her because of her self reporting is a different issue.Parkwells (talk) 19:33, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help add missing woman

[edit]

I cannot find any information online of a female U.S. Department of Defense civilian (not a service member) analyst who was killed in Iraq and given a warrior's burial in Oklahoma. I cannot remember her name, date of death, or tribe. Does anyone? Tfdavisatsnetnet (talk) 01:10, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
