September 17, 2020 revision
[edit]This revision converts the article to the taxonomy of the American Ornithological Society's Check-list of North and Middle American Birds for consistency with other western hemisphere lists for entities north of South America. In addition it brings the list itself up to date. The specific changes, which follow AOS unless noted otherwise, are:
- Revise the sequence of families.
- Revise the Orders of families Nyctibiidae (potoos), Apodidae (swifts), and Trochilidae (hummingbirds).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Rallidae (rails, gallinules, and coots)
- Revise the sequence of species in family Charadriidae (plovers and lapwings).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Scolopacidae (sandpipers and allies).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Phalacrocoracidae (cormorants and shags).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Accipitridae (hawks, eagles, and kites).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Picidae (woodpeckers).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Psittacidae (New World and African parrots).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Tyrannidae (tyrant flycatchers).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Hirundinidae (swallows).
- Revise the sequence of species in family Turdidae (thrushes and allies).
- Revise a name and a specific epithet.
- Add one species per Avibase.
- Revise the text, counts, references, and notes to reflect the above.
