Absurd idea[edit]

As we could not hope to list all the hundreds of thousands of co-operatives that exist, surely we need some criteria for inclusion in this list that are more prescise than "someone has heard of it"? Not that I object to co-ops being promoted, of course. TobyJ 15:22, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Besides, we have the risk for including "fake" cooperatives, for eg. cooperatives legaly considered as such by the country laws but which disrespect the coperativism principles. --Leontolstoy2 22:53, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously, the list could be restricted to cooperatives sufficiently notable that they have their own articles. Furthermore, as the list grows, dividing the list by type of cooperative (in addition to dividing it by country) would help keep it manageable. (It even could be divided into multiple articles.) --orlady 04:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I like the idea of dividing the list into types of cooperatives. I plan on creating a List of worker cooperatives. Gobonobo T C 18:04, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Someone has created a List of retailers' cooperatives and a List of Co-operative Federations eith oddly inconsistent capitalization and hyphenation (coop federations are themselves coops.) --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 18:03, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable cooperatives[edit]

I've removed entries from the list that do not have their own articles:

Bangladesh

Kenya

Kenya has the strongest Co-operative movement in the world. In Africa its ranked number 1. Many Kenyan Co-operatives were started in the early 1960s and mainly because of Farming the was[clarification needed] being embraced after the British left the newly independent country. Kenyans formed co-operatives so that they could buy large chunks of land from the British farmers as well as market their produce. Below are some of the largest co-operatives in Kenya.
