Splitting this article into two

[edit]

Wouldn't it be good to split this article into two:

(a). The summer squashes, such as cucumber or courgettes;;

(b). The winter squashes, such as pumpkin, butternut squash or acorn squash.

This is only a suggestion, and I shall wait to see what others think. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 20:27, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The list of summer squashes only has five varieties listed. Are there more? If the fraction of the squashes and gourds listed here that are summer squashes would be very small, it doesn't seem worth it to me to split the article. I do, however, strongly believe that the article should be beefed up with descriptive and/or informative entries for each of the items here, and perhaps that could go in the descriptions. My overhaul

[edit]

Well, I guess the first thing to state, flatly, is the Wikipeida is not a seed catalogue, and the number of redundant entries and excessive detailing of minor, single-supplier, proporietary cultivars may be of interest to the home gardener, but is not appropriate for an encyclopedia giving an overview of the subject to an unfamiliar reader. And it missed very commercially important varieties. Pretty sure this article was next to useless before. oknazevad (talk) 21:26, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
