Bernard Durkan
[edit]The Irish Times today references Bernard Durkan as having served 8 weeks in Portlaoise - https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/miriam-lord-s-week-virus-surge-sees-cabinet-isolated-in-covid-castle-1.4836468 - via an interview in some internal FG document, saying it was related to a National Farmers Association (NFA) protest.
A newspaper archive search confirms that Durkan was fined and bound to the peace in 1967 for an NFA road blockade (Irish Press, Jan 31 1967). If he ended up in Portlaoise for the same event it was presumably contempt of court on either the fine payment or breach of peace.
Without a specific article this easily falls under original research; but as a still serving member of the Oireachtas its certainly interesting if anyone can find a reliable source! --37.228.204.244 (talk) 01:15, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- By doing a further dig, his release from prison is reported as "Bernard Durkin" in the Indo on June 13th 1967 claiming five weeks imprisonment until the 12th. --37.228.204.244 (talk) 01:21, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
