List every manga?

OK, seeing how the page is coming along at this time, its time for a new question: should we really list every manga ever on this page or just the crucial ones? (when I say "crucial", I mean those like the series that lasted a year or more, unless they are shorter and have an American release like ZombiePowder, Gun Blaze West, even non-Viz series like Shadow Lady and Bomber Girl). Going through this list so far, I've realized there's a lot of series that will never see the light of day in this country or that no one would ever want to know about. -StrangerAtaru 17:48, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

You are right

  • Yeah!!!!You are right why should we keep these from American minds. We should list all of the manga from WSJ (that are not extremely obscure)YOU AGREE?Jump Guru 01:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
    • OK, starting to imagine a few ideas in my minds for adjustments, lets see how you feel about this:

1990:

  • Keep: Ace (one year, author of "Captain Tsubasa"), Hana no Keiji, Shin Ta-chan, Slam Dunk, Chinyuuki, YYH
  • Dump: everything else

1991:

  • Keep: Nothing :p
  • Maybe: Three titles stand out in my mind: Tengai-kun (early work by "Hell Teacher Nube" author Makura Shou), BURAY (early one by Kazuki Takahashi, YGO author), Lamp Lamp (early Obata)
  • Dump: Um...everything, including the maybe?

1992:

  • Keep: HARELUYA, HARELUYA II: BØY
  • Maybe: Bon Bon HS (its a few years but its not as known), PSYCHO+ (early by Ryu Fujisaki), Monmonmon, Chibi (two more one-years with little exposure)
  • Dump: Everything else

1993:

  • Keep: Ninku, Luckyman, DNA², Nube
  • Dump: Everything else

1994:

  • Keep: Captain Tsubasa WY, Kenshin, Makibaou, Mind Assasin
  • Maybe: Bomber Girl (was released in the US), Kagemusha (one year series done by FoNS author), RASH (short by City Hunter author), Ousama wa Roba (moderate series not too known)
  • Dump: Everything else

1995:

  • Keep: Ayatsuri Sakon, Shadow Lady, Level E, Sexy Commando
  • Maybe: Hisokari Dance (one year, not as known)
  • Dump: Everything else

1996:

  • Keep: Wild Half, Hoshin Engi, YGO
  • Dump: Everything else

Could keep going but I guess you get the point. But its up to you. -StrangerAtaru 02:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Slight update: I made the necessary pruning to the 90s and 00s list and may get started on the 80s list soon enough. Most of the nowhere series I deleted outside a few...mostly those that either have been released or will be released in this country (Gun Blaze West, Blue Dragon Ral Grad, Bomber Girl, Shadow Lady), those that are tied to other series connecting then (Hareluya -> BØY, Spin-chan -> Taizo) and those that have entries already on Wiki (RASH, Bremen, Lillim Kiss, COWA). Outside them its one year or more series...if you want to readd any of those I deleted that you think are essential, be my guest. -StrangerAtaru 19:42, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Why I readded Butsu Zone

I came to a realization: all of the really short series on the page so far have Wiki entries. If a short series (not a one-shot) has a Wiki page and were in WSJ, it will be on the page. (thus why I added Butsu Zone: I checked Takei's entry, it had a link to a Wiki entry, thus its back on our list) But outside that or having a significance in this country (like being released or tied to another series), that's it. (though if one of the newest series bombs and it has a Wiki..should the entry remain here?) -StrangerAtaru 03:08, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

    • Hey Ataru I noticed that the reason on the japanese wiki for ZombiePowder. why it just said ZombiePowder. was because that's probobly how they say it for short in Japan. So we can still put the long name and then verify that they just put ZOMBIEPOWDER with no period in the USA Jump Guru 15:36, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
      • The reason why its only called "ZOMBIEPOWDER." is because that is its full and real name. "Death is a Black Arm" is the first volume's name...it may be the first chapter's name too, but the series is just "ZOMBIEPOWDER." And if you can prove that the "Death is a Black Arm" part is actually part of the title, it will remain as such. -StrangerAtaru 17:35, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Oh I get it it's one of those manga like One Piece where they say the name of the volume on the front cover Jump Guru 15:35, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
    • Actually a lot of manga do it like that. But in One Piece's case, the first chapter was the same as the two one-shots prior to the start of the series: Romance Dawn. Thus leading to confusion. -StrangerAtaru 13:21, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

ARticle for New Series

Someone start articles for Sket Dance, VisteuR and Samurai Usagi

  • Just because they're in the magazine doesn't mean they will get articles. I just recently created a P2 article after one that was thrown away because "it wasn't significant"..but since its approaching a year I guess they found it significant enough. Remember: most of the new series die a couple months after starting so we can't say whether they'll still be around. (though if recent ranks show anything, I think a Samurai Usagi article would be appropriate soon enough) -StrangerAtaru 03:15, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Names

Just wondering: do we really need the name of all the manga to be specifically carbon copies of the text on the cover down to the letter? I think some of these names are just getting a bit too specific when all we need is the generic names like "Gintama". (maybe we need to have Japanese/English, but that's it) -StrangerAtaru 19:21, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

About Belmonde's removal

I know there will be a couple people who want to readd Belmonde le VisiteuR to the list of Jump series, but there are reasons why I removed it from this Wiki page. The first: there is no Wiki page for this series at this time. The second: it has lasted less than a year, not a significant period of time to affect the magazine. As I see it, there have been hundreds of Jump series from 1968 to today (trust me, I've been through most of the list) and most outside a significant group don't even last that long, appearing and dying within weeks. If we list every last one of them, it will just be a list of names, most of which have no significance whatsoever. (some may be short manga that went nowhere from those we know of, others are series that have no significance whatsoever either in title, author or anything) So for making the Wiki easier, I've limited this page to the following:

  1. Series that have lasted at least a year in WSJ (most of the big titles but a few smaller ones too)
  2. Series that lasted a shorter period of time but have pages on Wiki currently (usually these are ones with author connections such as "Gun Blaze West", "Cowa", "Lillim Kiss" but also includes even more recent dead series like "Hitomi no Catoblepas" or something like "Bremen")
  3. Series that have slight American exposure even if they may not have pages currently. (what I call the "Bomber Girl" clause: a short series in WSJ without a page but was published in the US so has some significance)

It may not be right but it perhaps helps get rid of the clutter of having every series ever on the list. (then again, once it has a Wiki page its open game in my opinion) -StrangerAtaru 18:12, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

  • I actually know why Bomber Girl is in america. Tsukasa Hojo (of City Hunter) is one of the editors of Raijin Comics along with a US Shonen Jump editor, Bomber Girl is a manga Tsukasa Hojo had an interest in so he put it in the Raijin Comics manga magazine. -- Jump Guru (talk) 21:10, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Makes sense but at the same time I was talking in general. While it would be adventurous to give a Wiki entry for every single Jump series ever, it would end up being extremely trivial considering how most die weeks after starting. If anyone creates a Belmonde Wiki page, then I can readd it...and the same goes to any shorter series that have Wiki pages that were in WSJ. But if it didn't, then its not important or crucial enough for this and we don't really have to list it. --- StrangerAtaru (talk) 21:34, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Ginga in US

Since Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin wasn't in US I put mentioned it's sequel Ginga: Legend WEED which was, and was published by ComicsOne and DrMaster. Jump Guru (talk) 20:41, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

  • That would be like putting in "Ultimate Muscle" in the Kinnikuman entry. Do you really think we need to do this, particularly since WEED is not even Shueisha? -StrangerAtaru (talk) 20:47, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
    • That's different Kinnikuman has it's own thing in US. If M.U.S.C.L.E. didn't exist then it would make more sense to mention it's sequel Ultimate Muscle. Instead of just saying the Ginga series isn't in US altogether, might as well mention the sequel. Jump Guru (talk) 21:15, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
      • If there was no M.U.S.C.L.E. and someone brought up the fact that the sequel of "Kinnikuman" was a series called "Ultimate Muscle", then would that make it listable on this page? Kinnikuman was the original series and was in WSJ while Ultimate Muscle is a sequel from another magazine by the same writer. The same goes for "Hokuto no Ken" and "Fist of the Blue Sky". Maybe if its in contextual purposes in regards to American releases I could see it, but considering WEED is in a different magazine even in Japan, I just don't see why we have to list it here when people could find it out by just following the link to "Ginga: Nagaraboshi Gin". -StrangerAtaru (talk) 21:50, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
        • I mean it's different if the actual manga is in america and it's sequel is also ("Hakuto no Ken" and "Souten no Ken"), but if only the sequel is in the US and nothing else, don't you think that's different? Jump Guru (talk) 23:29, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
          • But that's just like "Ultimate Muscle": Kinnikuman never came over except as toys and the first real manga/anime we got was the sequel. But yet we only list Kinnikuman on this page. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 00:30, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
            • I know M.U.S.C.L.E. is a Kinnikuman toy (The only resemblence of Kinnikuman), there isn't a toy series called G.I.N.G.A.!!!^u^” Ginga only has WEED, Kinnikuman has M.U.S.C.L.E. Jump Guru (talk) 01:17, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Guide: mangaka and multiple manga

Considering that we have many series in the magazine by certain mangaka (and considering many of them are extremely short-ish and don't have articles, whether or not they need them), I decided to list them out in here so it won't clog up the regular page (unless they have a page already). All listed will be Jump-only and will be mostly whatever I can find. (which means we won't be able to list all the subsequent stuff, spinoffs, or other series...and any author with little info or no manga on Wiki currently will not be listed)

Cover matters

I don't know if we really should clog the page with a zillion covers. The first issue and the 90s one is great, but I want to try and illustrate Jump in each era with maybe more than one series per cover. The Catoblepas one really just demonstrates a series that died. And the JoJo one is nice and good use but somehow only just demonstrates JoJo and should just stay there. (BTW: I put up the DB/Kimengumi one since there was a bit of variety showing the contrast of action and comedy in the same magazine) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 18:53, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Yeah I agree Hitomi no cover is also kinda out of place, what I think we should do is show the first issue of of these years : 1990's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, and 2000's. Jump Guru 22:40, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Maybe not the first but an issue that best defines that era in series. (like the early 95 one) Thinking for this decade of using either an issue from '04 (which would have Death Note and Gintama) or '05 (which wouldn't have some series but would have Reborn and D.Gray-man) May have to take it though from Jump's main page to get it done. -StrangerAtaru 02:08, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Jump Lists: the precident

I've been thinking about this a bit after last night, particularly with what I've been seeing on some of the other Wiki sites. Other foreign Wiki are starting to copy the list from ours and I really don't mind this, even if many of the series we probably have connection with are different from the ones that they do. However, after finding the Japanese Wiki Jump list that shows every Jump series ever, I think it is time to go over once again what exactly we list on ours to make sure we are in agreeance. Since WSJ is a Japanese institution, it is right that they list all their series due to the collective experience. However, I still think that the English Jump list should remain as the following:

Any WSJ series that has lasted a year or longer and made a significant appearance within the magazine, with the following added exceptions:

  1. Any series, short or long, that has been published in the United States or is known in the United States in other means. (Zombie Powder, Ral Grad, Bomber Girl)
  2. Any shorter series that is connected to another series that lasted longer (Haleluyah -> BOY, Spin-chan -> Taizo, this isn't including "sequel series" since that's a continuation)
  3. Any shorter series that has a Wikipedia page regardless of publishing matters. (this is mostly for new series that end up lasting a short time like Hitomi no Catoblepas or ones that pop up usually connected to an author with a more successful series such as Toriyama or Inoue. Due to technology, something tells me a lot of new series will fall into this catagory of having a page created and then not lasting that long.)

I still think that if the English page lists every series ever, it will be a list of garbage. Due to the limits of technology until recently, we don't really have the shared experience of Japan and thus it would just be a bunch of names that have no relevance. Maybe if every series ever had a Wiki page then they would be here but I really doubt that is going to happen due to how "look forward" the manga community is both among fans and companies. (with many older series brought over never fairing as well) So I guess if anyone has any comments or critiques on this, I am open to hear them. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 18:23, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

  • You're right it would be a list of pretty much black text. I think we should stick with the series that have articles (That aren't for contest, Akamaru Jump, or just a poinless one-shot), I think we should get a bit obscure in the sections where WSJ started so it can reach the level of the manga in 2007 n' such. I've come to notice that some day the manga there are going to be like the ones in the back. Jump Guru (talk) 16:42, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Little confused on the part where you said "I think we should get a bit obscure in the sections where WSJ started so it can reach the level of the manga in 2007 n' such. I've come to notice that some day the manga there are going to be like the ones in the back." Can you explain it better? -StrangerAtaru (talk) 16:51, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
      • The manga in 2007 and 2008 some day are going to be just like the manga in the 80's (really old and really obscure), so if we list the manga that were well known back then (like Naruto is well known now). Then we can get a appropriate list of well known titles in all the different time periods. Jump Guru (talk) 19:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
        • Ah, sort of get it now. Yeah, that's basically what I'm aiming for. Thing is that the trouble is not with a series such as Naruto: something tells me it may remain with some following even in the future, sort of like a series such as Saint Seiya or YYH. The trouble is more for the "long but forgotten" series that exist in Japan and here. Probably one of the better examples on the list currently is something like "Black Angels": the series was created by the artist of "Doberman Detective" (the writer, BTW, was Buronson, who had a little series after DD called "Fist of the North Star"), it lasted several years, never had an anime or any sort of real legacy and is mostly now known more by 80s Jump nostalgia buffs in Japan than anyone in the US. That's the sort of series that we would forget about if it weren't listed on here. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 20:16, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Cobra Names

I figured out that the original JUMP Comics name is Space Adventure COBRA (example: Space Adventure COBRA, JUMP Comic). I think we should sort out which versions of Cobra the different titles are used in. Jump Guru (talk) 22:16, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

About the recent cutbacks

In case you are wondering why I'm simplifying things: I am talking with another Wiki writer on the Shonen Sunday page about this article to see if we can create a similar one for that magazine. However, they said that we overcomplicated things and that most of this could just be found on the page for the manga/anime itself. In order to make things easier, I decided to just cut to the bare bones for the disambiguation. Similarly through conversation, I am starting to think about adding the original manga author to each of the Jump series, allowing for better connection between series and author on here. (they are also trying to convince me to put every single series these authors did on here but so far I'm trying to prove that it would be rather pointless without articles. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 01:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I get what you mean, we have to admit we are being a way to exact. All we have to do is at least put the publishers down, most of this stuff I think only we understand for example: Jump Comics/Jump Comics Deluxe/Jump Comics Selection version called...., like that. No one but us know what those manga lines are, although I still think we should mention which versions are called COBRA and which versions are called COBRA: The Space Pirate. Although in reality we need to stick to the basics. Jump Guru (talk) 02:30, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
    • About the publishers: if we just say it was done by "Viz" or "Gutsoon" or whatever, then the others can do the rest either on their own or through the Wiki for the series. What we had down was just too technical and too much for what's supposed to be a simple list. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 03:31, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
      • Oh, please don't feel that you guys need to change anything here due to my approach to things on the Sunday wiki. My comments on the Sunday page weren't intended to affect your work. My interests only extend to the Shonen Sunday family of magazines, and I'm certainly not trying to encourage you to link everything in Jump, as I'm not a Jump reader. I would feel remiss if you altered things here due to my work there. HarleyAcres (talk) 03:35, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
          • I don't know why but I have a weird obsestion over stuff like that i don't know why! For example two nights ago I had a dream that Cobra was recenly published by Verticle (publisher of Osamu Tezuka's manga Buddah in U.S.) exept for some reason Verticle was called "Flopped" in my dream, and I bought the book. It was the most pointless dream I ever had, although you get the point right? Jump Guru (talk) 23:44, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

FoNS and FoNS Master Edition

I think we need to do somthing about Master Editions of Fist of the North star. About a month ago I figured out that Master Edition in japan is published in Weekly Comic Bunch, so the only real Weekly Shonen Jump Fist of the North Star is the VIZ one. We at least have to mention it was published by Coamix. If you want proof look at this. Jump Guru (talk) 00:28, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Its just too complicated and mostly goes into things after the initial publication. Since it started in Jump, it just should remain a Jump publication with the whole Viz/Gutsoon thing in this country. If we overcomplicate things it will just end up screwing us again. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 03:11, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Distribution

I think we should sort how Shadow Lady is sorted in U.S. . Dark Horse sorted the series by Sudden Death and The Awakening. I was also thinking we should do the same with the series in the Viz Montly Comic Series. Jump Guru (talk) 01:57, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

  • We should just list the series as is. If anyone wants to know about how distribution was done, they should look it up by the manga. As is, the more we complicate the list with petty and tiny things, the less the list will work. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 02:09, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
    • I was thinking maybe one of our policy's should be "Don't make info go three lines down" because that's what keeps messing us up. Jump Guru (talk) 02:14, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
      • The key behind the page should be as such: series title (and any dub name), author, length of run, legacy (if needed like for Kinnikuman or Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin) and publishers (if any other than Viz). Listing section titles (unless its legitimatly broken up on purpose, such as with YGO, DB, Bo-bobo and such) just drives it a tad too specific. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 02:35, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
        • The Viz Monthly Comic series is very confusing; and actually was broken up on purpose as well as YGO, DB, Bo-bobo. I've actually noticed FoNS and Shadow Lady are the only ones that need that now. Jump Guru (talk) 20:19, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
          • Well we sort of need to know how FoNS and Shadow Lady were distributed. As I saw it, it looked from how you tried to depict it (at least for FoNS) was that each "arc" had a huge title and that's how it was released. If we list those titles here, then it will just clog up the small entry. Personally I just wish that those "titles" would be just used on the original FoNS Wiki page so that we can just say that "Viz started it, Gutsoon rerelased it in color" and that's it. As for Shadow Lady...since it was a short series, I don't really know why Dark Horse would want to split it up like they did. Maybe the best thing to do would just advise that the story arcs each gave a "different title" to these two series without telling what they were. (compared to DB/DBZ, the three YGO and the Advance/normal Bo-bobo) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 17:36, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Wait a minute..... Shadow Lady was sorted by arc. names too? Jump Guru (talk) 17:24, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Viz Communications & Viz Media

Considering that its pretty much the same corporation even with the merger with ShoPro, why the heck do we have to change all those other series back to Viz Communications? As I see it, we should just keep it as the company as is and just let the Wiki article for Viz explain its evolution and mergers. The key to this article is to make its explnation as much to the point as possible without all the microscopic nuances that they can get from all the Wiki articles about the series itself. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 18:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Technically no, it is not the same company. Both ShoPro and Viz Communications had seperate meanings then they merged and made VIZ Media. They just changed the name a bit, but think of it like Enix and Square Soft; they both made Square Enix. (the creators of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest) Jump Guru (talk) 23:53, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Monthly Jump manga

Should we mention the monthly jump series on the page since they have articles and they were in Weekly Shonen Jump. Jump Guru (talk) 02:07, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

  • MSJ/JSQ is a tad touchy with me. I think they need a seperate list (maybe going back to "Bessatsu Shonen Jump" since I think that was monthly and had stuff such as "Champ" by Akio Chiba in it) and they were barely in the magazine outside the transitional period. Maybe we could have something under 2007 stating something about the "refugee status" for the series (Claymore, Gag Manga Biyori, Rosario + Vampire, Tegami Bachi) during the MSJ/JSQ transition. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 14:07, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Hareluya and Hareluya II: Boy

I was thinking about making Hareluya and Hareluya II: Boy articles. I was wondering if you wanted to help? Jump Guru (talk) 03:22, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Know very little about either and only saw the BOY opening just yesterday. Hope you know what you're doing, particularly how crappy your "Tottemo! Luckyman" article was before I fixed it. (personally I wish I could get a few older series articles like Halenchi Gakuen and Dokonjo Gaeru but still...not much is known about either here) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 04:21, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Sorry about the Luckyman article I was trying to make a good article but right when I was in th middle of it I noticed I had to do somthing really important! After that I forgot, that was totally my bad!! Please forgive me! Jump Guru (talk) 19:08, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
      • I actually am easily forgiving but I do want you to know: know what you're writing before you create an article. (for one thing, Luckyman was created by "Hiroshi Gamō" and any information regarding his relation to "Tsugumi Ohba" is better left for the author page...let alone you forgot to put down dates) If you know what you're writing, I trust you with the BOY article. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 19:30, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
        • Good! Now.... about the names... some of these are flopped and some of these are going the japanese way; we need to put the names one way so it's not so confusing. Jump Guru (talk) 23:14, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
          • I just usually stick with first name-family name. Go with that. BTW: do you know of BOY or are you just going to steal it from Japan's Wiki? -StrangerAtaru (talk) 23:43, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
            • I was just thinking about that....... I really don't know that much; I just put that on so that we maybe could both make it. I have read some of Hareluya though. Jump Guru (talk) 01:11, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
              • If you've read Hareluya, then start there and see how it goes. Meanwhile, I think in a few weeks I'll be able to make a page for "Ten ni Showaru Cupid" (early Yoshihiro Togashi) for the page since I just got it confirmed from Kinokuniya. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 01:46, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

JoJo series

I think we should seperate the arcs of JoJo that are made into seperate series:

  • JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
  • JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean
  • Steel Ball Run (First four volumes)

Even though they are arcs they are still counted as seperate series. So we should list them or a least say that they are seperate. Jump Guru (talk) 01:22, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

  • You know with some of the other seperation regarding series, I could see it...but I really am unsure about seperating Stone Ocean from the others since that wasn't really a "restart" rather than Araki's attempt to reclassify the series after pt. 5 started bringing in a new audience. Maybe we can adjust the '87 JoJo entry through at least pt. 5 (maybe pt. 6), then just list "Steel Ball Run" as a new series prior to leaving WSJ and being reclassified. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 14:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Gataro

Isn't Man*Gataro the guy that's famous for drawing all the really discusting and disturbed old people? Jump Guru (talk) 00:07, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Keiji

Hana no Keiji had a really short run in U.S. before gutsoon!'s close I think we should mention that. That's why I'm listing the volumes that the publishers are up to. I think we should also do it with the VIZ manga too, but then that would aquiare erasing the italics. Jump Guru (talk) 20:52, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

  • We should just leave those to the articles that cover the series. I think we're starting to add too much crap to what should be a simple list again. At this rate, the only thing I can think of is if we just turn this into a simple chart that lists all the series and any further information (like American run, knowledge, etc) into footnotes. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 21:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Monthly comics

This is really driving me insane. You want to make a Viz Monthly Comic Series article? The reason I think we should do this is because nothing on wikipedia explanes how it works. And for some reason no one feels the need to explane how the series are made into a monthly comic on the articles for Dragon Ball, Cobra, FoNS, and BAOH. Jump Guru (talk) 19:29, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

  • The only place it probably would fit would be the distribution section for Viz Media. I already know how they did it back then: they treated manga like regular comics and had two stories per issue usually and released it monthly. (which explains why stuff like Ranma 1/2 took forever prior to the adaptation of the graphic novel format for the manga) The stuff for Viz's distribution prior to the SJ line is better said there than in anything for WSJ outside slight mention for the stuff you mentioned. (since back then they did a bit of everything yet mostly just hyped their Rumiko Takahashi properties) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 21:50, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Naruto > NARUTO, Death Note > DEATH NOTE

Should we also put the japanese romanizations or replace the regular names with the romanizations. Jump Guru (talk) 19:20, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

The Full List

Well now I'm starting to debate my position on my former position: now that we see the Spanish and the Chinese lists are pretty much listing every Jump series like the Japanese list, I'm starting to debate maybe getting in line with them, regardless of whether or not many of them even matter. I don't like it but we may need to identify the key series some other way. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 19:25, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

  • I didn't pay much attention to those lists.... I just found them and put them on. But we should keep up with the other lists; so let's do it if we have to. Jump Guru (talk) 19:29, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
    • An interesting thing I noticed though on the Spanish List: they bolded anything with an adaptation out there, whether it be anime (like most) or live action (mostly the 70s series like "Harenchi Gakuen", "Doberman Detective" and "Astro Kyuda") Maybe we could use something like that. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 19:34, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
      • OK, messing around with charts and so far here's what I got for some sort of base (starting with 2000 to get the modern series done first and so I can keep it hidden):
Manga Serialization Mangaka
Bremen (無頼男 -ブレーメン-) 2000 Haruto Umezawa

If we need any other options on the chart, please say so now. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 19:55, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Extras

Maybe we should put an "Extra" section for the Monthly Jump Hold-overs, and for contests like Gold Future Cup. Jump Guru (talk) 21:05, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Monthly holdovers will be below the 2005-2009 entries. As for Gold cup and the one-shots, forget it. That would just mean even more stuff. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 21:57, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
    • I'm deleting any series in all caps. (if it shows that that's how they spell the japanese name) Jump Guru (talk) 17:43, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
      • That's understandable. Meanwhile, I'm debating whether or not we need anything special to help regarding other key information, including if they were released in the US or means by which we know of them in the US. (particularly with something like Kinnikuman, which is such a bizarre case due to M.U.S.C.L.E.) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 20:15, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
        • Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing; but it is very pointless to put the names in all-caps twice. So should we make a seperate list below for the U.S. information? Jump Guru (talk) 20:24, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
          • I was thinking footnotes for vital information. For example, the footnote for "Kinnikuman" will mention the whole "M.U.S.C.L.E." situation and the "Ginga ~Nagareboshi Gin~" will probably mention WEED. (while those which only have anime, like "Mazinger Z", "Kimagure Orange Road" and "DNA²" will mention the company releasing it in the US.) But from there, I don't know if we should mention who's published what in America or if we need a seperate catagory that will probably be mostly "No" outside those that have it. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 20:39, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
            • Actually I'm pretty sure that Mazinger Z was never released in DVDs; it was just aired on television. Kind of like Mach Go! Go! (A.K.A. Speed Racer), although VIZ Media was going to release a box set. But both of those shows were treated as saturday morning cartoons. Jump Guru (talk) 20:57, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
  • I think we should just put a section way at the bottom entitled "U.S. Releases" and then we mention all the other stuff. Jump Guru (talk) 00:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Nogami Neuro

Is Demon Detective Nogami Neuro a real name or a dub name; If we put dub names on here it won't be a japanese list. So it's either dub names of japanese names. If you ask me the only names on here should be the japanese ones. Jump Guru (talk) 20:29, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

  • It is effectively a translation. (it was revealed with the omake in the US version of Muhyo vol. 3) I really don't know how to do this but if there is a translation of a name that's legit between the English and the Japanese name, I sort of do it as so. I really don't know if we should use any English translations or just keep them all in Japanese. (I mean if its obvious like "Hell Teacher Nube", I could see it, but I can just change them back towards their former names. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 20:37, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Ultra Jump

Are you a reader of Ultra Jump? If you are do you want to make a List of Series run in Ultra Jump? Jump Guru (talk) 20:45, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Was never the seinen type but if someone has something I can work with I probably wouldn't mind doing it. Probably once this is done I may just start doing what I've done here to the Sunday page. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 20:54, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
    • You don't have to, I just thought that maybe if you knew about the series we could do it. The reason I said that is because a new series called PEACE MAKER just came out; that made me think someone needs to keep up with this. If you ask me the page is pretty NEEDLESS!! (Get it!! Needless is an Ultra Jump series) Jump Guru (talk) 21:46, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
      • I think the key is to just have a consistantly updated content section like the main Jump page (and Sunday page) now have. If we get them up for Young Jump, Super Jump and Ultra Jump (and if someone sort of keeps the Jump Square page up to date), it would be great for their sake. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 23:57, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
        • Yeah sounds good to me. I think what the users that made those pages did; is take a bunch of series well-known in U.S. and have never been in the magazine since 2000- or so. Aqua Knights is on the Ultra Jump page and hasn't been in the magazine for years. Jump Guru (talk) 00:13, 23 January 2008 (UTC) P.S. Aqua Knights was in the Viz Monthly Comic series.

Series

How do you take that much series at once and put them on the list? I can only take a few at a time. Jump Guru (talk) 17:51, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

  • What do you mean: putting up all those series? Its actually rather easy if they are already set up. (at least I'm not attempting to make Wiki pages for all those series outside the ones that already exist) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 19:17, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Anniversary Video Games

I think we should also put a section for series that were in the Anniversary Video Games. Jump Guru (talk) 16:36, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

  • The video games themselves already list what are in them. I think we should determine what to do next once all the lists are complete. (besides, not too many series are going to be in all four of them...I know Dragon Ball, KochiKame and JoJo were off the top of my head) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 18:44, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Japanese and English names

I think we should only put the Japanese names more of the manga aren't translated. Jump Guru (talk) 01:32, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Mostly I've been trying to write the "Japanese name" for many of the unknown series. However, considering "Video Girl" is a close approximation of "Den'ei Shojo" (and the dub title is "Video Girl AI"), I don't see why we can't keep it as merely "Video Girl". This isn't like the whole "Hokuto Shinken"/"Fist of the North Star" problem, where the dub made a mistranslation...even if that title is just as well known now. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 13:55, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
    • I actually think they made Hakuto no Ken into Fist of the North Star on purpose. "Fist of the Big Dipper"..... honestly.... that sounds really stupid! Jump Guru (talk) 20:08, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
      • Its not that stupid. Kenshiro is trained in that style of martial art plus has the Big Dipper engraved on his chest. Maybe we should have called it "Fist of Ursa Major". (since that's another name for the Big Dipper...and "the great bear" just seems cool to connect to Kenshiro) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 21:15, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Biweekly

So the magazine was biweekly...... what type? It could be: Every two weeks have one issue, or Two issues in one week. Just a question..... Jump Guru (talk) 05:08, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't think we can put right next to the name but we can put it under the year..... Jump Guru (talk) 19:18, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Confusion time

Why are we overusing the Japanese for some titles (the change of Kenshin's title) and translating others (Sannen Kimengumi -> 3rd Year Kimengumi) Which are we going with and how? -StrangerAtaru (talk) 23:37, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

  • How we did the names before is actually more confusing, i'm just directly translating the names to Romaji. What I did with Kenshin was: Rurouni -> Rurōni; we can't make some with accents and some without. If you ask me we should just list them all with accents. What I did with Kimengumi is really just a more direct transltion. Jump Guru (talk) 01:22, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  • I get what you did with Kenshin, but the Kimengumi translation just further confuses me on what we directly translate and what we just leave in Japanese. The title "Sannen Kimengumi" does refer in a way to them being 9th Graders (compared to "High School! Kimengumi", which started after they graduated 9th Grade) If we call this by a translated name, then that means we should translate a bunch of the other names too. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 03:38, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Mikio Itou

I wrote an article for Mikio Itou (Normandy Secret Club, Granada, Nazo no Murasame-kun) on the One Piece Wikia, but I don't know if I should create a Wiki article for him since he's extremely minor in the run of things. (the article: http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Mikio_Itou) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 14:02, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

  • That is very confusing. I might say make it because he made alot of series..... but on the other hand.... Granada is a one-shot. That might count it as two series he made. Jump Guru (talk) 02:00, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
    • Some context: Itou was used as a special hidden character in the early volumes of One Piece prior to the three series he created. I just wanted to show his article on the Wikia since I don't know if he really has anything significant for the Wiki. (all three of his series sort of bombed) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 11:48, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Cover of new Image

The new image brought onto the article would be good for the main article. It has alot of good series for representing Weekly Jump. Jump Guru (talk) 02:00, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Issues

I was thinking about a few things. I started marking the issues for the Jump SQ. series and also started posting the Japanese for the creators. I though maybe we could do this on the List of Weekly Jump page? It may be alot of work but it makes the list make more sense. -- Jump Guru (talk) 00:46, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Rosario +/to vampire

Alright, here's where we stand: we want to use Japanese names, but at the same time we have the situation with the + in the title "Rosario + Vampire". In the Japanese title it is read as "to", but the symbol representing it is "+" even in the title. I know I want to go by the title, there is a difference between a reading of a kanji in a title (see To Love-Ru, where the "ru" uses the hiragana for "ru" but we use "ru" in the title due to the translation) and the usage of a symbol that can be read with Japanese words. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 16:45, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Early 1970s Jump Covers!

This was just an amazing fluke, but I was looking up "Dokonjo Gaeru" today (mostly due to a Pokemon episode coming up with character designs obviously based off that) and I found an amazing amount of decent sized early 1970s Jump covers with many of the series from that era (Harenchi Gakuen, Otoko Ippiki Gaki Taisho, Samurai Giants, Koya no Shonen Isamu, and of course Dokonjo Gaeru) I want to use one for the page but really can't pick which one. Here's the link: http://www.suikoudou.co.jp/sub5.htm#jyanp . I may go over them later and put one up for the page. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 16:27, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking about downloading this image for the Monthly Jump article: http://www.suikoudou.co.jp/jyanp47-11.JPG . – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 17:36, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
That's not monthly Jump though. However personally I do think that maybe I may want to emphasize one of the major series of the era, though I'm debating between Dokonjo Gaeru and Isamu. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 00:54, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
No it isn't, it was a special of WJ called Bessatsu Shonen Jump, that started the whole Monthly Jump magazine. Also, what is Big Gun? – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 00:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
I see that. Yeah it would be nice for an early MSJ reference I guess. Meanwhile I used one of the covers from the page (the Isamu one with Hiroshi from Dokonjo on the side) on this page if you think it works. BTW: I don't know what "Big Gun" you're referring to but I did see a "Big Gun" on the list as a Buronson work between "Doberman Detective" and "Fist of the North Star" in 1980. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 01:46, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
I keep seeing a series that says "BIG GUN" on the old covers of Weekly Jump and it isn't on the list. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:50, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Please point me to one of the covers with "Big Gun" on it and I'll help you. I just want to know the era so I can look into it. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 02:01, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Here's one and I have seen it on on of the starman ones too: http://www.suikoudou.co.jp/jyannpu-51-12.jpg . : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 00:01, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
It looks like that "Big Gun" is a one-shot by Hiroshi Motomiya (the guy behind "Otoko Ippiki Gaki Taisho" and "Salaryman Kintaro" among others) That looks like some special "one shot" issue featuring many of the mangaka working there at the time. (others I can recognize from the kanji are Go Nagai, Osamu Tezuka, Yasumi Yoshizaka, Kontaro, Satoshi Ikezawa and a few others) -StrangerAtaru (talk) 22:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

WSJ manga in English

I was thinking about this, and then started to think that maybe we should erase all the English media notes. 1) They are taking up a ton of space and 2) If we delete them, we can add in real references which will be easy, we can just make links to the ANN pages for the manga and that gives all the info. : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:28, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

MSJ holdover image/Hunter x Hunter

I found a good image at the WSJ website: http://jump.shueisha.co.jp/henshu/backnumber/2007/45.html , it represents Hunter x Hunter when it revived from hiatus in WSJ, and it has a mention about MSJ holdovers. I think it would be pretty good on the page. : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 02:42, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
