Route Maintenance

[edit]

Under the "Route" section, it reads that the northern section from Corlett Drive northwards is maintained by SANRAL, while it also reads somewhere within that paragraph that there is a northern section maintained by the "Gauteng Provincial Government". Are we saying that the "Gauteng Provincial Government" & "SANRAL" are one in this regard? Is the "SANRAL Section" the same as the "Provincial Government Section"? Somebody please clarify. Chils Kemptonian (talk) 02:21, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Chils. I would say no. There seems to be a historical answer as to why ownership changes on the route. I believe the Johannesburg City boundry ended around Corlett Drive in the 60s and early 70s, and that is as far as they built the M1 but at the same time the Transvaal Provincial Authority (TAP) and the South African government's National Transport Commission were building the N1 from Pretoria and N3 bypass to Buccleugh Interchange and then connected the N1 onto the M1 at Corlett Drive so the latter two were responsible for the north of it. Now we have the Johannesburg Road Authority, Gauteng Provincial Government (duties of the old TAP) and SANRAL (the State) with interests in it. Unsure if the Management Order has been changed. Further investigation is needed. Conlinp (talk) 09:14, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
