Maria Wodzińska's divorce
[edit]User 151.177.62.193 is dubious about Maria Wodzińska's divorce from Józef Skarbek, on the grounds that most Poles were Catholics and therefore generally could not divorce.
In any case, her 1848 second marriage, to Władysław Orpiszewski, was not facilitated by the death of her first husband, Skarbek, since he died, while married to someone else, only in 1900.
Tad Szulc writes in Chopin in Paris (2000), p. 252, that Wodzińska was divorced from her first husband.
But the Polish Wikipedia "Józef Skarbek" article appears to omit his marriage to Wodzińska.
So, did Wodzińska and Skarbek never marry each other? Did they obtain a papal annulment? Did they engage in bigamy? Or, like some other Poles, did they change their religious affiliation to a Protestant one, in order to divorce and remarry?
