The result of the move request was: Moved. The existing Mary Parker page will be moved to Mary Parker (Salem witch trials) per In ictu oculi's suggestion, and I'll also move the other two, Alice Parker (Salem) and John Proctor (Salem witch trials victim), to the same format for consistency. Note that the move of the dab page will require admin assistance, which I'll request. (non-admin closure) — Amakuru (talk) 11:02, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
– There is a natural disambiguation for the article currently at Mary Parker by including her maiden/middle (not sure which it is) name. Even with no natural disambiguation, I don't see any evidence that this particular Mary Parker is more searched for, or more notable than the others listed at the dab page. Mary Parker should be the title for the dab page and allow the reader to choose the appropriate article. --Relisted. - Comment a search on ("Mary Parker" OR "Mary Ayer Parker") AND ("John Ayer" OR (Salem AND (witchcraft OR witch)) in books indicates no support for the use of "Mary Ayer Parker" that I can see. No dig here but I think that RMs like this indicate a continued confusion in P & G in relation to the priority of recognisability over choice of disambiguation method.
- This, however, does not constitute an objection to a move of Mary Parker and, perhaps, using Mary Parker as a redirect to Mary Parker (disambiguation) as per WP:PRECISE. If I see an article reference with a title such as "Mary Parker" I may logically expect it to go to an article regarding a person called "Mary Parker". Otherwise we could always revert to our otherwise standard format of List of Mary Parkers but I think that "Mary Parker (disambiguation)" is sufficiently precise. If suitable disambiguation can be found for the Mary Parker mentioned at that article then the namespace "Mary Parker" could certainly be used as a redirect to Mary Parker (disambiguation). - Support but Mary Parker (Salem witch trials) or similar would be better than Ayer. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:28, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
- Comment I have no opposition to moving Mary Parker to another page like Mary Parker (Salem witch trials), rather than Mary Ayer Parker. I only picked the natural disambiguation, because that is what is preferred according to the dab guidelines. However, if as Greg says, recognisability takes precedent over natural disambiguation, then using an explanatory dab is ok with me, I still believe Mary Parker should be the actual disambiguation page, not Mary Parker (disambiguation) because we only add (disambiguation) to the title if the primary name is already in use (per WP:DABNAME), and the entire purpose of this requested move is to make the dab page the primary name. -War wizard90 (talk) 23:34, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support. No primary topic. Rename the Salem woman to Mary Parker (alleged witch). -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:37, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support we have Alice Parker (Salem) but John Proctor (Salem witch trials victim) 76.120.162.73 (talk) 01:49, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
