Previous olympian hopeful?

[edit]

Found something about that online, that Mat was sidelined by an injury. If anybody has a reliable source... GreaseballNYC (talk) 13:21, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There are several where he was quoted as training at the Olympic Training Center, but he never got close to qualifying, so I wouldn't really call him an "Olympic hopeful." Usually I associate that term with someone who actually got to some qualifiers. It should probably be mentioned somewhere that he wanted to go to the Olympics, and chose weightlifting, because he is the son of Don Fraser (figure skater) and Candace Jones, Olympic figure skaters. He's Canadian, why is the main picture of him a huge American Flag with him barely visible in the foreground?

@Dr. Universe: First off, if you have a better public domain image of him, then feel free to WP:UPLOAD and change it. Second, he is a Canadian-born athlete who participates/d as an American citizen. Every year he competed at the games, and when he was a weightlifter, was as an American (the US flag was always next to his name and then seen again as he podiumed while holding the flag). @Yosemiter: thanks for teaching me that. The article didn't say anything about his American roots other than the opening sentence which calls him "Canadian-American", so his connection to America was unclear, whereas his connection to Canada was crystal clear from several parts of the article. I still think a better picture would be appropriate, where the focus is on the person rather than the flag in the background. Maybe I will upload a better one later, though I would be happy also if someone else were to do it. Dr. Universe (talk) 20:11, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
