I propose that Parents' Worship Day be merged into Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas. I think that the Parents' Worship Day article is about the same subject as the Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas article and merging removes duplication and allows once place to manage the content which will be beneficial. --Klaun (talk) 17:03, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Don't merge - I feel different words have its own importance. For hindi community it is more useful to have a page as "Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas", whereas for the rest of the world it is beneficial to have the page as "Parents Worship day". So i feel no harm in having the two different pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omashishagrawal (talkcontribs) 05:18, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Don't merge - Among Indians Hindi keyword is popular so for them easy to search n find information from "Matru pitru pujan diwas" page but for English speaking population the English keyword is popular so for them its easy to find and get information from "Parents worship Day" page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shuklarahul974 (talkcontribs) 06:38, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - It should be noted that findability or having both names for the festival in the Wikipedia is not a reason to not merge these articles; a redirect from one name to the other can be used to allow the content to be found from either name. The only question is whether the two articles content is significantly different. Can anyone offer feedback about content being different? --Klaun (talk) 15:38, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The content at Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas does not have citations and seems to be written in an essay-like manner, so I don't see a need to merge content. A redirect to Parents' Worship Day is good enough.--DreamLinker (talk) 16:13, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The content at Parents Worship Day is more well-referenced and famous for those who know English language. Hence it should not be merged.Amicable always (talk) 17:02, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's not really a reason not to merge – more a reason to use the content from the better-referenced article as the basis for the content for the merged article. Richard3120 (talk) 18:06, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The Parents Worship Day is more famous "term" among people who know English, hence it should not be merged.Amicable always (talk) 03:37, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So in other words, it's the same subject, you just want to keep the Hindi name for people who don't speak English – that's not how Wikipedia works, and anyway, why would non-English speakers be searching for the article on the English Wikipedia instead of the Hindi Wikipedia? • Don't merge - Both pages have their own significance. Also the content is different since diferent community people celebrate it in different way and others celebrate in different way. Governement has supported both events.Serene me (talk) 03:33, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Don't merge" - मातृ-पितृ पूजन करना मात्र हिन्दुओं का ही धर्म नहीं बल्कि आज के समय की हर जाति-धर्म की आवश्यकता है। इसके विरुद्ध जाकर देश का ही नहीं खुद के पैरों पर कुल्हाड़ी मरना है। https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Matru-Pitru_Pujan_Diwas#Merger_proposal — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.97.46.228 (talk) 04:27, 9 January 2018 (UTC) 27.97.46.228 (talk) has made few or no other edits outside this topic. • Don't merge - [Parents Worship Day is a generic term & is applicable to many Indic cultures around the world & is celebrated as form of paying respect to the parents.Matri Pitri Pujan Diwas is a vernacular term with difference in spellings (Matri Pitri /Matru Pitru) not many non English speakers would visit the page. Thus it makes perfect sense to the keep both the pages as separate entities with Parents Worship Day as the main page .Matri Pitri page can be redirected if the community wants but that is totally needless. ] Uddalak Aruni (talk) 19:07, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't explained how these are two different subjects, only that there is an English name and a Hindi name. Richard3120 (talk) 17:49, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't merge - Parents Worship Day and Matru Pitru Pujan Diwas, both pages depict relevant meaning to people who know different languages. Let's try to understand it via analogy: 1. [Worship] and [Puja (Hinduism)] have same meaning, still we have different Wiki pages since "both terms" are relevant to different people with different ideologies. 2. [Prithvi], [Earth] and [Bhūmi] have same meaning, still we have different Wiki pages for them because they are referred by different people in different contexts.La vérité gagne (talk) 11:46, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain how these are two different subjects, rather than the same subject with an English name and a Hindi name. For example, what different things do people do for Parents Worship Day that they don't do for Matri Pitri Pujan Diwas, or vice versa? And I don't think your analogies are very good ones, because as you've just said, they mean different things in different contexts, so they have separate articles, whereas you haven't explained how Parents Worship Day/Matri Pitri Pujan Diwas are different and should be separated: (1) "worship" describes the general act of religious devotion, while "puja" describes the specific act of devotion in Hinduism or Buddhism, including the rituals or customs specific to that religion; (2) "Earth" describes a physical object, the planet we live on, while "Prithvi"/"Bhūmi" describes a Hindu goddess represented by the Earth. Actually, you've made more of a case to merge Pritvi and Bhūmi, as they are clearly the same subject. Richard3120 (talk) 17:49, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Richard3120: You said: "worship describes the general act of religious devotion, while puja describes the specific act of devotion in Hinduism or Buddhism, including the rituals or customs specific to that religion" Similar meaning I want to convey, here "Parents Worship Day" describes the general act of celebration by people of different religions such as Hinduism, Islam, Jain etc. And "Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas" involves Hinduism specific rituals. Point to be noted here is - "Parents Worship Day" and "Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas" have two major differences- 1)First difference is Linguistic i.e. Language related, as Hindus who don't know Hindi/Sanskrit will refer Parents Worship Day page only. 2) Second difference is religion related- Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas has celebration rituals specific to Hinduism, while Parents Worship Day has a wider context. Since this festival is celebrated by people of various religions. La vérité gagne (talk) 06:26, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@La vérité gagne: The linguistics part is irrelevant, because this is the English-language Wikipedia, and will refer to the English-language common name. The bigger problem is that you have to show the differences between the two articles – at the moment they both say that they were started by the same person, celebrated on the same day, by the same people, in the same parts of India. The Parents Worship Day article says in the first line that this is called Matri Pitri Pujan Diwas in Hindi, and both articles contain references that use the name of the opposing article. None of this exactly demonstrates that they are two different things. Richard3120 (talk) 23:06, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
