publication dates in footnotes

[edit]

@Mackensen: Why are we using British/Commonwealth style DMY dates for newspaper article publication dates in the footnotes of this article? Per MOS, I think we should be consistently using American style MDY dates throughout an article about an American subject written in American English. • As an American partially educated in England and a former law review editor, I'm a bit of stickler for honoring the appropriate MDY and DMY date formats within their natural national varieties of English. Looks odd to have an article written in American English about an intrinsically American subject use British/Commonwealth style dates. It's a bit like using American spelling or dates in an article about an English association football coach. For an American editor, it appears you edit a lot of British subjects, so I'm sure you know what I mean, Mac. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 20:17, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't disagree with any of this; as I said, I just accepted the default from the tool I was using at the time and didn't give it as much thought as I should have. I've already corrected it. Mackensen (talk) 20:26, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
