Addition of Information

[edit]

I am planning on adding information to this game. It will follow the outline detailed below:

  • Gameplay (sub-divided into)
    • Flow of Game
    • Turn-based Battles
    • Force Metals
    • Differences between Gamecube and PS2 Version
  • Characters
    • Maverick Hunters
    • Resistance
    • Rebellion
  • Story
  • See Also - Wolf ODonnell 13:55, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Too much saturation. Generally, video game articles should be seperated into mere subsections with Gameplay, story, character roster, and trivia. I've downsized the article substatally and made some minor simplifications. -ZeroTalk 12:09, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Issue of Spelling

[edit]

Somebody recently did some spelling changes and only then did I realise a huge error on my behalf when I wrote the article. I was using British English spelling and British English grammar. Is that a major problem or can I continue using British-English? Wolf ODonnell 20:07, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I and User:Tony Sidaway use British grammer, but only when adressing another person. I believe its more acceptable for us to utilize "regular" english grammer in our article summaries. -ZeroTalk 12:19, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You mean, American, right? Yeah, I guess so. I must be more careful from now on. Wolf ODonnell 13:32, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that there's an article about this game but with a different title, that one sucks, and should be removed... Zap 00:40, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I agree. I shall turn that into a re-direct page. Wolf ODonnell 11:11, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Game Engine

[edit]

One of the things I noticed while playing this game, were the similarities to Final Fantasy X in play style and character motions. In FFX, the characters (especially the main ones) have motion routines (my term) (a motion that during their speech scenes, they repeat over and over (very noticeably Tidus when he's excited and waving his arm in a circula manner) and the Command Mission characters share the same trait. The motion routines of the characters (except for cut scene), are almost identical to their battle movements. The Turn base combat system also plays like FFX, including a later turn indicator (with adjustments for ability usage and special attacks).

Additional Bosses

[edit]

I don't like this section. It reads like a walkthrough on Gamefaqs, and uses too much slang and weasel words. it also gives more info then the normal bosses. I believe it should be deleted or rewritten. User:BioYu-Gi! 1:27, 18 February 2007

Redips in Trivia Section

[edit]

That last note about Redips in the Trivia section is a BIG spoiler. It might seem obvious, but i've met quite a few people who never stopped to think abut it and have been shocked to learn about it. I reccomend either a spoiler tag or it's being removed. 24.7.201.100 17:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

  1. The infobox is almost entirely cited and covered in the article, except for the director, whose involvement in the game is presently uncited.
    • Done. Found commentary from the guidebook and added the director to the development section.

Images

  1. Not a failing issue, but consider mentioning in the lead infobox rationale that it depicts the protagonists of the game, which the gameplay screenshot does not adequately do.
    • Done.
  1. Gameplay screenshot rationale should not have n.a.; try to replace those. Also, can you think of a way to make the gameplay screenshot rationale stronger?
    • Done
  1. The caption for the screenshot is pretty wordy. For example, I wouldn't reckon that you need to describe who is being fought or who is fighting - this is better for alt text. Rather, the screenshot caption should discuss the gameplay and how battles work.
    • Done
  1. I question the rationale of the cast image. Being that the infobox image shows the characters (not all of them), a rationale that it shows the cast would be inadequate.
    • Removed. I don't know if showing all the characters is important so if you feel it's important I'll readd it.
      • I would feel that it would only be doable, especially as a third image, if the character designs received sigcov in the context of this game.
        • Readded but to development as that's where the cast are mostly discussed.
    • Expanded rationale

@Cukie Gherkin: Thanks for the commentsTintor2 (talk) 21:43, 8 February 2024 (UTC) @Cukie Gherkin: Revised the image.Tintor2 (talk) 22:02, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay

  1. Switch uses of "players" to "the player" unless there's a multiplayer component being discussed
    1. Done
  2. Does the Brady Games citation cite the description of Mega Man X games as typically being action-platformers, the genre of this game, or that the ordering of the stages are different than they were in past games? If not, I'd recommend attaching separate citations.
    1. Added an extra reference
  3. "The player spends their time in one of the situations described below. The hub area is linked to Central Tower. From here, players transfer to the different Adventure Stages." I find the framing of this confusing. It's written as if readers are already aware of the hub area. You should drop "The player spends their time in one of the situations described below" and explain better the hub area.
    1. Done
  4. What is an 'Adventure Stage'? Is that the aforementioned stages that the player navigates through? There may be a case to discuss how players navigate the world after discussing how players progress through stages, before the description of the battles.
    1. There is only the hidden boss unlocked after completing the game.
  5. "While the game is primarily linear, upon completing missions and the game, the player can re-explore the previous areas and find hidden bosses." This feels like a redundant comment to the previous line about Adventure Stages; I'd recommend picking one to keep in a reshuffle of this paragraph.
    1. Done
  6. Are there stages that are not Adventure Stages? If not, I would recommend just using stages.
    1. Reworded
  7. "Throughout the game, the player may come across abandoned robots." Is this an optional feature? If not, change it to "the player comes across".
    1. Done
  8. "Some names were changed due to the fact that the characters are machines." What names, what were they changed to/from, why is the fact that they're machines relevant?
    1. Is it in gameplay?Tintor2 (talk) 00:21, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  9. "Reploids and robots equipped with Force Metals gain special abilities; however, the energy that these metals exude may have unwanted side effects if the character is overloaded past Force Metal tolerance." I feel this could be tweaked to sound less 'in-universe'. For example, you could write it as "Reploids and robots gain special abilities from Force Metals, though they may experience side effects if overloaded past Force Metal tolerance."
    1. Reworded
  10. When it's said that one can get overloaded, is that in reference to the later comment about there being a limit of Force Metal equips? If not, I'm not sure what it means to be overloaded.
    1. Reorded.
  11. "They give Reploids special abilities." Redundant to an earlier comment. This next part seems to be restating the part about side effects, so I recommend picking this one, as it appears to address the above issues I've detailed about 'overloading'.
    1. Removed
  12. "including but not limited to the above." The above what?
    1. Reworded
  13. I feel like Reploids are inadequately explained here, particularly what makes one a Reploid and one a robot.
    1. Removed them from gameplay.

@Cukie Gherkin: Reworded everything from gameplay I think.Tintor2 (talk) 00:55, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay (2)

Doing another check.

  1. I still see that the navigation of the game's world is interrupted by an explanation of the gameplay, which feels jarring. In general, the article seems to jump around a lot from discussion of in-battle to out-of-battle.
  2. I feel like the article does not explain what an Adventure Stage is, and why the article uses "stages" or "Adventure Stages", since there's no other "[Blank] Stages".
  3. "The initial is linked to Central Tower where the group can rest." The initial what?
  4. The discussion of Giga City feels redundant to the earlier discussion of stage progress, taking details from the Giga City portion to expand it.
  5. "Once a three-member team is formed, a Final Strike attack can be formed in which the team attacks the enemies together for a limited time." This is a turn-based game, yes? Is it a limited in-game timer, or a certain number of turns? Also, under what circumstances can a Final Strike occur? Also also, what does it mean for a team to be formed - is it just three members under your control in battle?
  6. Does the Brady Games source identify status effects as being an RPG staple?
  7. "DOA" is still unexplained; is it death? If so, instead choose a more understandable terminology.
  8. You can just say that abilities can be used to cure most statuses.
  9. Do some Force Metals have no side effects?
  10. "Exceeding the amount they can equip may lead to them becoming rebellious random afflictions that negatively affect the characters" Aside from a typo, 'rebellious' is not clear to the average reader.

Spotcheck

  1. [1] This source does not appear to verify the X8 demo information, nor does it verify that it was included "instead." I suggest replacing the source, and removing the "instead" as it implies they did it to compensate for the lack of GBA-GC connectivity.

@Cukie Gherkin: Sorry. I didn't realize forgot to revise the part about the negative effect of the Metals.Tintor2 (talk) 19:22, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

  1. Honestly, Tintor, I don't like failing GAs, I'm really opposed to them, but I feel like this may be worthwhile to do another go through, maybe take it to peer review. There are just a lot of issues with structure and clarity of terminology. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 20:34, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cukie Gherkin: No problem. Fail it. I see there is stuff needed to be explained.Tintor2 (talk) 20:35, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you bring it to peer review, I'll leave some comments. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 20:36, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
