What was wrong with my picture?

[edit]

I know it's not the best picture ever taken, but I couldn't find any other Malthouse pictures on Wikimedia. It's better than nothing, right?

Not really. See MOS:LEADIMAGE. Among other things, it says "Lead images should be natural and appropriate representations of the topic". Yours hardly fits that requirement. HiLo48 (talk) 09:54, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's both of those things, but clearly you have more experience at this than I do. Can you explain what specifically is wrong with it? Is it because of all the logos in the background? 2001:8003:103B:FC00:4DCE:BD5F:91A1:3972 (talk) 09:59, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For me, it's the crown. I simply wouldn't have recognised that as Mick without the caption. I know this is subjective stuff. This isn't an urgent issue. Can I suggest we leave this discussion open for a few days at least so that we can get the thoughts of other editors? HiLo48 (talk) 10:05, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, we can do that. I wear a crown all the time, so I thought this picture of Mick looked really cool. If everyone decides that it's not a good lead image, do you think it would be an okay image to put further down in the article? You know, to show the kinds of things Mick got up to when he wasn't coaching? 2001:8003:103B:FC00:4DCE:BD5F:91A1:3972 (talk) 10:11, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Given that we havn't seen much response here, I've just posted a comment at the Talk pages of the clubs Mick has been associated with, seeking comment here. Let's see what happens. HiLo48 (talk) 03:20, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see anything wrong with including this image in the lead if it's the only one available. Although the crown is not ideal, the rest of it shows Malthouse pretty well. – Teratix 04:24, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Given that no one else has raised any objections (and one person even wrote in support of it), I think we should re-insert the image. 2001:8003:103B:FC00:D02A:6112:2A53:D141 (talk) 01:41, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. HiLo48 (talk) 02:10, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done. 2001:8003:103B:FC00:D02A:6112:2A53:D141 (talk) 03:00, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
