Official Boundaries
[edit]Midtown is an official district of the city, with actual boundaries that matter when it comes to taxing and zoning laws. The east boundary is Monroe; the west boundary is Northside Drive; the north boundary is I-85 and I-75 and the south boundary is as far south as Ralph McGill Blvd. Note if the boundary were North Ave then it wouldn't include the Bank of America Tower.
added - The area south of North Avenue is not Midtown and has never been considered Midtown. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.17.113.131 (talk) 04:19, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
However, socio-cultural boundaries may differ.
Please note the area between Ralph McGill and North Ave is often called the 'SoNo' district (South of North Avenue) but is better thought of as a transitional/subdistrict. Ryoung122 12:41, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- the NPU defines it as: " Midtown Defined. The geographical boundaries of Midtown shall be defined as beginning at a point on the railroad tracks on the east side of Piedmont Park southerly to Ponce de Leon Avenue, from Ponce de Leon to Argonne Avenue, from Argonne Avenue to the north side of North Avenue, from North Avenue westerly to interstate 75/ 85, from interstate 75/85 northerly to a point at which Interstate 85 crosses Peachtree Street, southerly on Peachtree Street to 14th Street, from 14th Street easterly to the railroad tracks and southerly along the tracks to the point of origin at the railroad tracks on the east side of Piedmont Park." not that its too important, but this probably better defines "Midtown" in terms of what most people consider it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.244.126.207 (talk) 06:40, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Different entities have different definitions. Check out the Midtown "flat rate" taxi zone (defined by the city of Atlanta for taxis originating at the Atlanta airport):
http://www.atlantacheckercab.com/rates_midtown.html
I've also seen a map that includes SoNo, using Ralph McGill Blvd as the southern boundary.Ryoung122 17:18, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Section Headers
[edit]I think that the appropriate section headers needed (in order of appearance) are "Music and the Arts," "Geography," and possibly "Transportation." Thoughts? Kat Malone (talk) 19:42, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- Kat, I agree that Transportation is a good addition; Geography is a possibility, though likely pretty short given the limited size since this is a neighborhood being covered. I think Arts is fine as a section header rather than Music and the Arts, as it encompasses music as well as fine and performing arts. A section missing that I think is very important is a history section, with a definite subsection/focus on the Midtown Alliance/Blueprint Midtown and growth/redevlopment associated with it. In addition to the arts Anyway, go ahead with what you feel is missing; be bold! Btw, welcome again, AUTiger » talk 20:14, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Architectural Section
[edit]I just rewrote this section. Please help me keep it accurate, or at least written in neutral language. Saying that Midtown looked like a "bombed out war zone" is a bit much, and downtown Atl. was never "constricted" with people. I am slowly adding to National Register of Historical Properties in Atlanta, and will get around to adding more content to midtown. Thanks all for the great page.Carsonmc (talk) 08:32, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
