Related to painter English painter George Romney
[edit]There have been a number of edits and counter-edits re Romeny's relationship to English painter George Romney. According to this edit he is not. Until we have something solid, I suggest that we remove it. Rgds, --Trident13 (talk) 22:01, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- cmt - Indeed, thanks to an editor who removed the incorrect notion that Miles's grandfather was the noted painter--whose edit summary is correct: "Removed the bit about Miles being the grandson of English painter George Romney. He wasn't. His grandfather was a different George Romney, perhaps a cousin." Indeed, although local news in England, noting that the artisan/architect Mile's father and grandfather are named George Romney Jr and Sr, respectively, had made the reasonable mistake to suppose that the grandfather was the George Romney of Dalton-in-Furness who was the famed portrait painter; in actual fact, George Romney the painter was Miles's grandfather's first cousin. The BBC gets it right:
These family realtionships were also delineated in a tome by the professional genealogist Archibald Bennett.--Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 23:42, 18 June 2012 (UTC)The Romney name still resonates in the town [Dalton-in-Furness], thanks to George Romney, a first cousin of Miles' grandfather, who was one of Britain's leading portrait painters in the 18th Century, a rival to Joshua Reynolds.
A primary school is named after him, and two streets also bear the Romney name - Romney Park and Romney Avenue. His prestige would have rubbed off on the whole family, Walton says.
"Anyone living in the town with the name Romney would have been respected."
Life dates of Romney's wife?
[edit]Under her picture, the life dates of Romney's wife are given as 1833-1884. Her wedding took place in 1830 (three years before her birth?). Her son Miles Park R. was born in 1843. A mother of 10 years? The date is probably incorrect. 82.83.57.199 (talk) 21:58, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
