6/13/03 - I changed the Madonna link to go to a non-ambiguation page -- Ilyanep

Marriage proposal? What?

"She became more famous after Madonna's website was defaced, in response to her attempt to curb online piracy, with a marriage proposal."

The above sentence doesn't make much sense to a person who isn't very familiar with Morgan Webb (like me). I get the impression that she jokingly offered to marry someone who could do... something? It's pretty unclear. The author of this article should get more specific. TomTheHand 06:14, Feb 2, 2005 (UTC)

This article on thesmokinggun.com clarifies the situation. I've added a link to that document in the article, but I'm not sure how the sentence should read. Perhaps it should be moved to a separate paragraph discussing the obsession some fans have with Morgan Webb (mostly due to her being an attractive female gamer). - MattTM | talk 08:49, Feb 2, 2005 (UTC)
The sentence suffers from bad commas and vague pronouns. It seems tha the event is of passing, trivial importance in Morgan Webb's life. If someone who hasa stake in this page would care to insert this event, he or she may feel free to use the following sentence: Morgan became more famous because of an impromptu marriage proposal made on Madonna's web site by a hacker during an attack made after the singer attempted to curb online piracy. It's a little cleaner but could surely be more concise.--128.186.13.112 20:25, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

As a public site used by users under 18, should there really be links to the site? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.119.14.124 (talkcontribs)

Wikipedia is not censored for minors, not even for profanity or ography. - Adolphus79 06:21, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Besides which, she did not appear nude in the magazine. And even if she did, it is citeable. (I always find it amusing that most people who complain about any reference to and similar publications in WP usually are anonymous, unsigned posters. They have the energy to come to the Talk page and post stuff like this, but not to sign up to be a full-fledged Wikipedian. Strange.) -- Jalabi99 13:23, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
I agree that the link is unnecessary. Furthermore, the original poster probably didn't sign up or sign the post so that he/she wouldn't get hate mail from pervs like yourself. Same reason I'm not signing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.141.194.3 (talkcontribs)
The thing was a notable event, and it's a good link. BTW, responding to comments in a talk page isn't "hate mail" by any definition. And if you're too afraid to sign your comments you probably shouldn't be making them. I'll sign them for you. --TheTruthiness 23:39, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
A lot of civility could go a long way here. Anonymous users can and are "full-fledged Wikipedians" just like anyone else. What if I wasn't signed on but wanted to make a comment while visiting someone's house/out of town. Would you discount me just because I happened to be an IP user? It's a core value of Wikipedia that all editors are equal. -- nae'blis 22:26, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
It's also a core value of Wiki[pedia|tionary|ad infinitum] that editors be held to be accountable for the words of their voice ... er, typewriter/computer/PDA/smartphone. If you edit anything, leave your name or nom de plume. That way, we can learn who to trust, who to eye warily, and who to strike immediately. Yes, all editors are equal. All edits, however, are not. Copyvio?

See http://www.g4tv.com/host/46/Morgan_Webb/index.html -- I don't have the time to check whether anything was directly copied, but the intro reads remarkably similar. --Ashmodai 23:02, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

FHM 100 Sexiest in 2004?

I don't think she was in the sexiest in 2004, but 2005-2006. Anyone agree with me?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.71.14.133 (talkcontribs) 06:14, May 14, 2006.

I know she was on the list at least once, and i think a few times. DurotarLord 18:50, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Might we remove some of this "trivia?"

Interesting person and all, but honestly... does it suit an encyclopedia to hold information such as the nickname for fans, both "superficial" and "deep?" It's beginning to read like an admirer's gushing letter at this point and really needs to take a more professional tone. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.54.155.45 (talkcontribs) 03:39, June 27, 2006.

Agreed, this comes across like the work of a slightly creepy fan ;) Adonai-aus- 05:16, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Morgan is now married

While I understand that proof is needed about her marriage -- I do not want to post a certain set of photos as proof so that some level of her privacy is preserved.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Highway (talkcontribs) 15:34, September 24, 2006.

So basically your entire reason for posting this is to say, "I have photos that could prove this, but I don't want to post them." Thanks? Jeff Silvers 19:31, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
No, there was more to it but it was removed from the actual wikipage and this comment wasn't removed from this page. It can be removed. Highway 20:44, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
So this whole thing here is useless then. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.80.187.222 (talk) 00:20, 27 April 2007 (UTC).

Image

I believe a freely licensed image to be superior to a screenshot in terms of general wikipedia image inclusion policies. Additionally, a screenshot should only be used to comment on the program or content of the program, rather than someone who appears on the program. It is for these reasons that I am reverting back to the image I uploaded which is a cc licensed image I found on flickr. --Mattarata 07:22, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough, but you can hardly see Morgan's face in that photo, which means the purpose of informing the readers what she looks like fails with the current photo. Heck, even the myspace photo deleted earlier is better than this one. Let's try to find a better photo...

74.139.212.137 07:38, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I agree, though a lesser quality image is better than an un-licensed one. --Mattarata 14:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
And now we are back to a copywritten image. Not good. --Mattarata 03:08, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I just changed the Image to a much better one.SuperWiki5 20:12, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

However, the copyright on it isn't clear. Sure, it looks better, but it's kinda difficult that anyone finds a picture of her that's willing to release it to the public domain. It's better to have something than none and, when a free image is found, place it. That's the way I think of this. Punkalicious 16:27, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Could the image of Morgan possibly be changed to something more suitable to her and that shows herself in a better light? I'm sorry but as a genuine concern I think a quality image can be found that doesn't show half of her unclothed. weems

That image should never have been uploaded, posting it was an infringement of copyright and a violation of Wikipedia fair use policy. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 20:10, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

vandalism

Shouldn't this article be protected from vandalism?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nhlarry (talkcontribs) 02:29, 22 December 2006 (UTC).

This article gets vandalized on a daily basis. Protection is normally placed on articles that get vandalized much more often than that (think every ten minutes or so...)--Mattarata 03:08, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Added unreferenced tag

I admit, I love Morgan Webb as much as the next gaming geek. But unfortunately this article, while interesting, is largely unreferenced. There is currently only one source cited, and it only talks about a small portion of the info in the article. Technically I could go through and add individual "citation needed" tags for various sentences, but frankly it looks like there are so many that it makes more sense to simply label the article "unreferenced" and then let interested editors take a stab at providing some usable sources to verify the information.

It's possible, by the way, some parts of the article are unverifiable. My advice would be try and add sources for more of the article, then after two months or so delete anything that still isn't verified. Information that is deleted as unreferenced c ways be reinserted later if a reference is found. Dugwiki 23:57, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

No Pictorial?

I found no reference on 's web site or anywhere on the web (other than here) that she ever appeared nude in , or in fact was even interviewed for an issue. I find the claim that she appeared in "the 2004 issue" to be dubious since it's a monthly publication, so I've changed it to "a 2004 issue" but I'm thinking it should be deleted altogether as it appears to be a false claim. A search on 's web site for "Morgan Webb" returns no results. M.S.K. 14:46, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind, obviously vandalism (I see the pattern now in the article history); reverted. M.S.K. 15:06, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Morgan is Leaving

I rellay don't believe this. If she was, the person typing it would have linked all of the things it says to other wikipedia pages and does not have any sources. Also, the first time it said she was leaving, I e-mailed X-Play about it, and it was off after that.

  • In episode 108 of this WEEK in TECH, around 33 minutes in (I checked) Leo Laporte said that he ran into Morgan, and she said her contract with G4's running out, so he suggested that she make a regular online show, which is now Webb Alert. Suiken 06:55, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

get a new picture

that one is old changeit —Preceding unsigned comment added by Woooooooo (talkcontribs) 16:16, 12 June 2007

Get a picture period. The article looks waaaay to blank. 24.196.115.179 01:13, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
If you think a picture is important, then find a freely licensed (non-copyright) picture from a public media event, or try contacting G4 or Low Water to see if they would release an image under a license compatible with Wikipedia. Non-free pictures of celebrities don't stay around on Wikipedia for long. Gimmetrow 01:26, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Recently married?

I've seen people mention in passing (on this talk page, even) that she was recently married - question is, is there any truth to that? If so, it'd be worth mentioning in this article. --75.2.32.250 16:36, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Someone added it because all the press releases about her new site venture mention it. Thank god the stupid "secret marriage debate" is over. --jca2112 21:12, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

new website

some one should add thats she's got an official website now. www.webbalert.com its not running yet but it wouldn't hurt to add it. Zabbethx 11:42 am July 27, 2007

I'll take that job. I will put it under a category called "Personal Website." JoeMonkeyPotato 3:49 pm July, 29, 2007

Toronto

Why does this article still say she was born in Canada when Morgan herself has said this isn't true?

I remember seeing on both the TechTV and G4 websites that she was born in Canada. If it is not true, why did both of those sites say so (especially seeing as how TechTV's website, at the very least, should have been eminently accessible to her)? Is there any verifiable evidence to this effect? Aramis1250 08:07, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

IMDB states she was born in Toronto, Canada, a bio on AskMen.com states she was born outside of Toronto. Perhaps the issue is whether she was actually born in Toronto or not. In the absence of anything else, I'd be inclined to go with "Toronto, Canada" as her birthplace, unless she wants to correct it by telling us where she was born. DMcMPO11AAUK/Talk/Contribs 15:06, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Who put this back into the article and why? She has personally denied being from Canada, what more do you people need? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.161.145.35 (talk) 13:30, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Image Added

Added an image capture from her video blog over at http://webbalert.com. Still waiting word on copyright/usage issues from site admins. Hopefully, they will reply before next week (before the image gets automatically deleted). - Ykentwegetalong 04:49, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Update: The site admins have given permission to use the screen capture via email. :-)

-- Ykentwegetalong 18:56, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Apparently that wasn't enough, because the images are gone as of 15 AUG 2007 @ 00:58 MST(Arizona). Aramis1250 07:59, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Made in Canada

Morgan Webb mentions on her Aug. 9 video blog entry on http://webbalert.com that she was not born in Canada. She adds that she has since tried to edit it numerous times but that somebody else seems to change it back to the erroneous birthplace.

- Ykentwegetalong 18:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I second that motion, this is a simple fact that needs to be locked down ASAP. Please consider locking this page for newly-registered users, it may help.

Deltwalrus 12:10, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

I have removed this section from "personal life"[1];
Because of her parents' Canadian nationality, Morgan retained dual-citizenship in the United States and Canada when she and her family moved to Los Angeles, California soon after her birth. This was once referred to on X-Play when Adam asked if she was Canadian, and she said only when it benefits her.[citation needed]
On here blog posting of August 9 she writes; Wikipedia is convinced that I'm Canadian. and in the podcast she says that she is not born in Canada.
So if she is not Canadian the she will not have dual-citizenship. And if she is not born in Canada from where did here parents moved from to Los Angeles? Have the section removed because of this. --Walter 23:32, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
The problem is that there are many sites like tv.com or askmen.com that claim her being Canadian (unless askmen.com meant just outside of Toronto on the US side of the border, which would be kind of strange). So in order to avoid future edits by unsuspecting people maybe a phrase like "as opposed to rumors Morgan Webb was not born in Canada" with a link to her blog as source should be put in the article LN2 14:38, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Time Enuff

Morgan is an avid technophile and it's about time that somebody found a clue and gave technophiles ownership of their OWN wikipedia pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.44.232.238 (talkcontribs)

See Wikipedia:Ownership of articles. --Strangnet (t, c) 23:53, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
In a way, they do. What Morgan should probably do is create a Wikipedia account and create the userpage for that account. IIRC, there are actually official databases of SAG members and other such persons; perhaps Wiki needs to create a category for them. With that in mind, remember that part of the responsibility of an encyclopedia is to tell the whole story, not just the story that the agent, PR rep, or other 'official' person wants told. Whether the subject is Morgan Webb, Alcoa, Microsoft, United Healthcare, or KB Homes, the encyclopedia entry must be able to include truthful, factual information about the subject even if it is damaging or unsightly. It must be verifiable, and it must be true, but as long as those two stipulations are met, everything is fair game. Aramis1250 07:55, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Agree - Wikipedia has an allowance for people to edit their own biographies. See the box:

she can stop living the lie now

we all know she is canadian, there is no other way for her to have dual citizenship. she was born there and moved to america as a baby so what, she doesnt have to get all defensive about it.

she even looks canadian, she looks to have heavy european decent like many canadians of that area. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mastershake100 (talkcontribs) 22:35, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

How dose she look Canadian?!? When ever I go to Cananda (which is less than an hour drive from where I live) the people look just like Americans! Ethnically speaking most Canadians are just like Americans - that is most are British, Irish, or German or a mixture of the three... and Webb is a Germanic name. Starzaz (talk) 20:43, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

It is also possible that she was NOT born in Canada but still has citizenship. If the parents retained Canadian citizenship at her birth, no matter what the country she is entitled to the duel citizenship of both the country of residency of her parents and the country she was born in if decided by the parents. Therefore, it is possible for her to have been born in america yet still have duel citizenship with Canada through her parents. (Tsukiakari (talk) 00:09, 22 May 2008 (UTC))
