Position[edit]

Double check the coordinates for this mountain; Peakware site lists as 35.833 N, 76.3667 E. [1]. The coordinates quoted in the article appears to be that of Rakaposhi Mountain.

EverestNews.com's entry on the Mustagh Tower headlines the summit as being 7284. The text then describes a twin summit, with the West Summit being 7270m, while the East Summit was 7273m. Joe Brown said it was a 'surprise' when they found two summits on the first ascent in 1956. Joe Brown and Ian McNaught-Davies reached the lower (West) summit on 6 July 1956, but couldn't tell which of the two summits was higher. They abandoned an attempt to cross between the two summits. My understanding is that the second team from the 1956 expidition reached BOTH summits on 7 July 1956 in order to ensure that they had conclusively 'nailed it'.

The SECOND summit referred to in the Wiki entry relates to the NORTH-EAST RIDGE summit, which EverestNews.com reports as being 7180 (agrees with the Wiki entry) and was first climbed in 1984 by a Anglo-US team. My understanding is that the East and West Summits wouldn't normally count as 'separate summits', but the very close height and the question that arises as to 'who' reached the 'top' first has required some 'explanation'. The 'true' second summit is the 7180 peak on the NE Ridge. Tban 02:00, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I took out most of the stuff about the multiple summits for now, since it wasn't properly sourced anyway, and what I see so far is contradictory. I will try to piece together what I have from the AAJ, Neate, and EverestNews.com. -- Spireguy (talk) 03:02, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sellas Photograph[edit]

Muztagh Tower by Vittorio Sella 1909 (distance is about 35km)

Vittorio Sella took more than one pictures of Muztagh Tower during the 1909-expedition. I don't know, but I assume that the foto in the article (by Jan. 2014) might not be the one the mountaineerers were talking about. Maybe it was the one on the right. But there are even some more, see Category:Muztagh Tower on Commons. --Rupert Pupkin (talk) 23:38, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
