Pronunciation of Fillion's name.

Does anyone know the proper pronunciation of his last name, without giving me IPA that I don't recognize? I've been pronouncing it "FILL-ee-on", just want to know if that's in the right ballpark, as opposed to a more French Canadian pronunciation of "FEE-on". - dharmabum (talk) 10:57, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Never mind, just watched a Firefly commentary, it's "Fill-EE-on". - dharmabum (talk) 06:47, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Jubal Early

Didn't the commentary just say that Nathan just mentioned it casually? Nathan does like to make jokes of things that's why I'm a little cautious. Also, because he thinks he is doesn't make it true. I'm a genealogist by hobby and people like to say "I'm related to such and such" and think they are but turns out to be a family legend. -plange 15:07, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Is the mentioning of Slither being a box-office bomb really necessary for Nathan's page? Spiria 01:09, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Let's not add his MySpace info

He's got some 3000 friends already, and he has only posted three blog entries, so new "friends" wouldn't get much out of the experience except spam. If someone really wants to find the info, it's there on various fansites. Zora 07:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

His myspace caption next to his photo currently says "Yes, it's really me. Check your Wikipedia and stop asking." Should we tell him Wikipedia's not a WP:RS? ;) -- Jeandré, 2007-01-08t19:26z
Actually his blog posts are pretty funny and you can only read them if you are a friend, so I think you would get more if you were a friend than just spam. I don't check myspace very often unless I get an email saying someone posted something, so it is worth it... --plange 22:44, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Could the main contributor to this page add that he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Society while attending the University of Alberta? 129.128.198.223 09:26, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Just some trivia regarding his surname/eponym: Fillion/Phillion exists as a derivative of the Greek "phila" or "philia" and exists as derivatives of Greek words that have been adopted into English, i.e., philadelphian, philanthropy, philately, Philemon, philarmonic, philhellenist, philia, Philip/Philippe, philippic, Phillis/Phyllis, phillyrea, philobiblic, philodendron, philogyny, philology, philomath, philomel/Philomela, philoneism, philopatridomania, philopolemic, philosophy, philotechnic, philozoic, and derivatives of the above. Also the fraternity Phi Beta Kappa which translates to Filosofia Biou Kubepnhths, which means a philosophical guide to life. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.131.1.184 (talk) 00:17, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Pasadena

He's listed as being on Pasadena in 2005. Those episodes were originally produced in 2001, but didn't air until 2005, as the show only got four episodes broadcast during its initial run and he showed up in like, episode ten. I'm torn as to if the date should be changed and listed lower on his filmography. Thoughts? Dirtysocks 01:13, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

207.241.137.116 (talk) 22:19, 13 January 2010 (UTC)== "Best known for..." ==

Before I get mobbed, let me qualify this by saying that I'm a die-hard Firefly fan. Now, while I think everyone's favorite Browncoat is best loved (by the cool people, of course) for his role in Firefly, isn't it conceivable that he's probably better known for his roles on Desperate Housewives, Lost, or (god forbid) One Life to Live, three shows that have had a much larger audience than Firefly ever did? --Wolf530 (talk) 04:42, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

In principle, we should never say "best known" unless we have a source to back it up. In the absence of a central statistical database of recognition ratings, this probably means citing a reliable source that says "best known". I see that AniMate has already removed the "best" from the lead sentence, which is one reasonable solution to your valid concern. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 05:36, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I see that the best know for being in Firefly is back. I think that that is misleading as he has been in a lot of other things. I think it needs to be reverted back so that it doesn't say that. I myself am not a Firefly fan so I had no idea he was in it. 207.241.137.116 (talk) 22:19, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

From the Fangirl who keeps getting linked...

Hi there, my stats led me back here. I've noticed that apparently my website keeps getting linked as proof of Nathan Fillion's physical appeal to the masses. I suppose since I'm an author I should appreciate the additional traffic, but I'm not sure I want the fact that I find Nathan Fillion attractive to be newsworthy or important enough to be included here. :) Since there seems to be some dispute over whether or not it is important enough, I thought I'd just weigh in with my 2 cents, in case the link-subject's thoughts on their own relevance matter. I don't find myself particularly relevant.  ;) -Moira Rogers —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.8.90.34 (talk) 07:03, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Matt Damon is cited as James Francis Ryan; Nathan Fillion was not in the film, or at least nothing more than an extra if the Wikipedia page on the movie is correct. In any case, he was not James Ryan, so this information needs to be cleared up. 67.11.26.153 (talk) 22:08, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Pronunciation

I hate trying to figure out the IPA templates and symbols, but if anybody's interested, here's a reliable primary source for Fillion's last name pronunciation: http://twitter.com/NathanFillion/status/25346773658pd_THOR | =/\= | 19:55, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates those things, but aren't we required to use them?--Bbb23 (talk) 19:58, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Added {{Need-IPA}}. Never could read those things though. Xeworlebi (talk) 20:02, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Does that mean some bot will come along and do it for us? Can we still add Fillion's reference to the word million after the IPA? This is probably written down in some policy, but it tires me out just to think about looking for it. Can't we just call him Nate or Nathan? :-) --Bbb23 (talk) 20:07, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Doubt it, I wouldn't even know how a bot could even do that. It means the article is categorized so if someone is cleaning up articles through via category they will find this article (only 92 other articles in that category). And if someone familiar with IPA reads the article they will easily see that the name needs one, and hopefully add it. I think adding the ref after the IPA is the best thing to do. Xeworlebi (talk) 20:20, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Assignment to Category:Article Feedback Pilot

The purpose of Category:Article Feedback Pilot is to keep track of articles that are being evaluated by the Article Feedback Tool during the Article Feedback Pilot, not to assign articles to be reviewed or to get feedback. This article is not one of those being evaluated as part of the Article Feedback Pilot. Thus, it would be a miscategorization to place this article in that category. I am therefore removing it; please don't re-add it. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 17:06, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Early career

I just watched a VHS tape of Hollywood Squres taped on 19870924 (Alf's appearance). Nathan Fillion is doing a FOX TV spot. This is 6-7 yrs before any IMDB credit. I'm surprised that this article doesn't even mention that he had an early career doing commercials. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ClintJCL (talkcontribs) 13:28, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Kevin Pollak's Chat Show

In the sentence about Fillion comparing every job he's had to Firefly, "compared" should be "compares". If you listen to the podcast, Fillion very clearly uses the present tense. So it's not something he did once in retrospect, it's something he continues to do. I don't want to start an edit war, so if no one objects, I'm going to go ahead and change it. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 01:08, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Browncoats Unite

Mr Fillion appeared in a filmed conversation marking the 10th anniversary of Firefly that was televised on the Science Channel not long ago. Many of the cast members and some of the crew discussed the experience of creating the show in the documentary, Browncoats Unite, along with clips from the show to illustrate the points made. It was filmed in 2012. Does this kind of thing count for inclusion in his TV resume? If so, here's a small bit about it to help you get started in finding info: http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/07/11/firefly-reunion-tv-special/ Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 21:40, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Firefly navbox

The editor Robsinden (talk) has removed the Firefly (franchise) navbox falsely claiming that WP:BIDIRECTIONAL states "no actors in navbox when in fact is says nothing of the sort, so I am here to get a consensus. discuss Sarty72 (talk) 20:25, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Please see discussion at Template talk:Firefly#Actors in navboxes. However, as currently the actors are not included, per WP:BIDIRECTIONAL we do not transclude navboxes onto article pages that are not linked in the template. --Rob Sinden (talk) 09:43, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Saints Row: Gat out of Hell

I know that it's impossible for you wikipedicks to use a definitive primary source, but the credits for Saints Row: Gat out of Hell lists Nathan Fillion as the voice of god. -User452 (talk) 05:55, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Drive

This line has me confused: "In October of 2006 Fillion signed a talent holding contract with the Fox Broadcasting Company; he is slated to star in a television series yet to be developed [6]."

Isn't Drive the "yet to be developed" (at that point) television series?

Eighth source

the eighth source thing leads to a message of a Drive hater on the FOX forum. Is it supposed to lead to the forums themselves, or did someone just vandelize this?

"Best known" for..?

The opening of the article says Fillion is "best known for his role as Richard Castle on the ABC series Castle as well as his earlier portrayal of the lead role of Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the television series Firefly."

Is he really better known for the Castle role than for Firefly? The latter show seems more generally recognized and culturally significant. It struck me as odd that "Castle" was mentioned first. Is that just because it's current? That doesn't mean it's better known, however. 99.235.142.71 (talk) 20:31, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

My opinion. I had to google Castle to see why I knew (but did not know) the male lead. Then I went Oh, Really, it's The Bloke from Firefly/Serenity, COOL! So yes, Some people like me did not put 2 + 2 to get 4. Though in in the second series his wearing a Halloween costume of "A space cowboy" (brown coat) commented on by his on screen daughter "you wore that 5 years ago" accompanied by the riffs from the Firefly theme confirmed it. Kudos to the Crew, Firefly was most excellent.

Yeah, I have to agree- I'm aware of both roles, but I can't take seriously the idea that he's *best* known for something, even as a close second, other than his role in Firefly. Even if you aren't a particular fan of the show, even if it annoys you for some reason, the man is far more well recognizable for this role. It's a little silly to suggest otherwise. If Mr. Fillion doesn't want it to appear that way in his biography and changed it himself, fine; but anyone other than he in all seriousness should consider reexamining their bias. Hypatiaslore (talk) 00:01, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Hypatiaslore

Firefly was seen by those with access to cable, or with a specific interest in seeing the show. It was, and has always been, a cult favorite. Though Firefly has many devoted fans, it's audience is still relatively small compared to Castle's millions upon millions of viewers who saw Fillion play Richard Castle on a weekly, big 4 network broadcast. I'd say, it's no contest which role Fillion is best known for...it's Castle. Duse42 (talk) 03:11, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

For the record, Firefly was on FOX. One of those big 4 networks. danzig138 (talk) 02:03, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

"Best known for"

Several times, I have removed the OR qualifier that Fillion is "best known" for this role or that role. In point of fact, I think that we would need a reference to point out that the actor is universally known for one role or another. Without a reference, it is an editor is extrapolating from their personal opinion what the actor is best known for; Wikipedia editors are not citable as evaluative sources in any article. I invite discussion from @TyMega:, as they are the editor who ha repeatedly added the "best known for" phrasing into the article. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 22:46, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

Jack Sebastian, TyMega has never posted on a Talk page, not even their own. They do not choose to communicate with other editors. Schazjmd (talk) 22:54, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
And I see they are just coming off a block. I am loathe to revert yet again the "best known" bit. Schazjmd, might I impose upon you to do so? (unless you disagree with my assessment, of course.) - Jack Sebastian (talk) 23:00, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
