Confusing

[edit]

This page was tagged for copyediting, but its chief contributor is a non-native English speaker. I'm doing my best, and will look for liguistics help. Miniapolis 02:14, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for editing the article and this talk page. https://escholarship.org/uc/item/2jm9f41f is a major source of the article. However, its information on phonology is quite difficult to understand. Sarcelles (talk) 15:04, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
EScholarship is an in-house feature of the University of California. Since the dissertation's title (New World Mennonite Low German: An Investigating of Changes in Progress) is ungrammatical, IMO it's a primary source. All the best, Miniapolis 23:05, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would have thought, that a Berkeley PhD thesis would be seen as a quality source.

Samlandic

[edit]

Quote:

A variety related to Nehrungisch, Samlandic, was spoken between Narmeln and Neutief.[1]
  1. ^ Mitzka (1922), pp. 117–135.
  • Mitzka, Walther (1922). "Dialektgeographie der Danziger Nehrung". Zeitschrift für Deutsche Mundarten (in German). 17: 117–135. JSTOR 40498141.

Issues:

  • Page?
  • That sounds a bit like Samlandic was also spoken in Narmeln (being an inclusive "between").

Source:

That is:

  • Dialect of the Frischen Nehrung is spoken in Narmeln; Westsamlandic is spoken in Neutief. Between Narmeln and Neutief there is a dialect border. Part of this information is now given at Low Prussian dialect#Dialects (change).
  • Source doesn't state anything about relation - but of course, all Low Prussian dialects are somewhat related. On the other hand, the border between (West-)Samlandic and Nehrungisch is stated to possibly be the strongest and sharpest.
