Requested move 10 August 2022[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: No consensus - Both in numerical terms and in policy/guideline terms there is no consensus here. There are two support !votes including the nomination, one oppose !vote. Whilst the oppose !vote refers to the sources used in the article as supporting the present title being the WP:COMMONNAME, the support !vote refers to bare Google hits. Both of these are potentially flawed ways of assessing prevalence (one is a self-selecting group, the other is subject to Google's well-known incredibly inaccurate estimation of numbers hits) so there is no reason to assess either of these arguments as being particularly strong in light of the relevant policies/guidelines. The proposal of the nom is based on the WP:OFFICIALNAME. No new !votes have been cast in more than a week so there is nothing to be gained from re-listing.
If a further move proposal is made, I recommend that it be formulated in terms of WP:CRITERIA and WP:COMMONNAME as well as other relevant polices/guidelines, and any assessment of prevalence be based on search results be done using e.g., Google Scholar or a similarly more reliable search engine. Nepal Socialist Party → Socialist Party of Nepal – नेपाल समाजवादी पार्टी remains the devnagri name of the party. This converted in English is both Nepal Socialist Party and Socialist Party of Nepal. The party has on the other hand announced the name to be Socialist Party of Nepal. Even official Twitter and Facebook handle of Dr. Baburam Bhattarai depicts the same which have millions of fan following. Comment, is it perhaps possible to merge the history from 24th July 2022 into Socialist Party of Nepal, then restore the DAB from February on Nepal Socialist Party with the inclusion of this new party? Procedural comment. As noted here by GeoffreyT2000, the request was performed by Civilengineer053. However, I have reverted this to the status quo as it was performed during an open request which had been contested and opposed. This results in one open move request rather than one opened and one closed asking for the same thing. The dab is currently at Nepal Socialist Party (disambiguation). Of course, the history split can continue to be discussed during the rest of the move discussion. The split is probably warranted from a first glance. I have not performed that split. Admin note: the split is not strictly warranted, as there was no copy/paste pagemove and thus no attribution issues that would require a split or histmerge. Sometimes pages get overwritten or converted into other pages, and in this instance at the very least there were was no hijacking. Splitting the dab of this page's history and tacking it on to the existing dab would not be appropriate, and just deleting those revisions isn't supported by policy. There are only two things that we could do then. Either do nothing at all, or move the current Nepal Socialist Party (disambiguation) to Draft:Nepal Socialist Party (disambiguation), copy the 00:18, 18 February 2022 revision to Nepal Socialist Party (disambiguation), and then merge the dab edits from Nepal Socialist Party to Nepal Socialist Party (disambiguation). Support "Nepal Socialist Party" gives mere 1020 results on Google, "Socialist Party of Nepal" gives 35000 results. I think it's clear what is the WP:COMMONNAME for this party, also matching its WP:OFFICIALNAME. -Vipz (talk) 18:27, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
