– warlords ruling South and North Vietnam 1533 to 1789 during the puppet Lê Dynasty; revert undiscussed moves, consistent with Trịnh-Nguyễn War, Nguyễn dynasty and Category:Vietnamese dynasties. Also per last year's RfC majority, as consensus on series of geo-articles RMs, and per increasing use of Vietnamese fonts in recent hardback history books. Flag?!

[edit]

@Editorfree1011:, could you please provide a source for this edit? Even the false academic source where the myth surrounding this flag is originally from claims that it was invented in 1802, so what source do you have for this flag? --Donald Trung (talk) 13:07, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

General note here, while I'm sure that banners were used by the Nguyễn Lords, I don't think that they had a standard imperial or clan banner (at least not one I could find, but this could be due to lacking vexillological investigations). However, I am absolutely certain that this flag wasn't used here. I found the original propagation of this myth, I think that user "Editorfree1011" probably just took the unsourced claims by user "Ngockhanh6bnt" at face value and inserted them into the English-language Wikipedia. As this flag has only ever been attributed to the Revival Lê Dynasty by an actual historical source it would be highly unlikely that their rivals would use it as their national symbol. --Donald Trung (talk) 20:04, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Type of government

[edit]

The current article calls it a "Duchy", but the more comment translation seems to be "Lordship", but the actual Classical Chinese title seems to be "Kingdom". I am not sure if we should even use of these terms, it might be best to describe it as "a vassal state within the Revival Lê Dynasty" than "a Duchy of the Revival Lê Dynasty" as I can't ever remember having seen this term used in any book about Vietnamese history to describe the Nguyễn Lords. --Donald Trung (talk) 10:55, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
