Purpose of Major events and Tournaments section

[edit]

Hi @Guliolopez, in response to your question, I just wanted to compile a list of the major tournaments for the sport for the benefit of the public/Wikipedia readers as there are multiple different organisations and bodies doing their own thing/organising their own major events in the sport (and the odd event where bodies partner together). I just thought it would be worthwhile keeping track (and a record) of all of the different major tournaments in one single list. Rhubarb500 (talk) 11:07, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rhubarb500. And thanks for your note. I won't harp on how a "list of [upcoming] tournaments for the benefit of the public/readers" might be seen to overlap with the WP:NOTPROMO guidelines (as you and I have discussed that before), but (to my mind) that section has a number of issues regardless. Firstly, in terms of the scope, the focus on 2023 and 2024 events means that section is very time-focused and likely to date very quickly, require near-constant maintenance, and fall out-of-date almost immediately. Otherwise, the #Competitions section already has entries on the main/major tournaments and competitions. With links to the relevant (sub)articles. I'm personally unsure, per WP:NOTDIRECTORY, we need a listing of (what?) each instance or each running of these events/competitions(?) Guliolopez (talk) 11:29, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair points, I will update the events section to just list annual events (rather than list each year's events etc) and combine the events and competitions section into a single section Rhubarb500 (talk) 15:32, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

One-wall handballWallball – Wallball is the name now used by most of the major organisations involved in governing the sport in countries across the globe, such as GAA Handball, UK Wallball, the United States Handball Association etc - they have moved away from referring to the game as 'one-wall handball', instead using the name 'Wallball' for the sport. N.B. the United States Handball Association (USHA) uses both names albeit they are used for two different codes of American handball - they use the name 'One-wall handball' to describe the code played with the smaller, harder rubber ball normally used in the four-wall code of American handball and the name 'Wallball' to refer to the game played with the bigger, softer rubber ball, very similar to a racquetball, that this article talks about.

The name 'Wallball' was also introduced by the organisations above, to differentiate itself from the game of handball currently played in the Olympics, that is similar to the sport of soccer, but played with one's hands. Indeed a few weeks ago, the World Wallball Championships took place in Limerick, Ireland, with 13 countries taking part, as can be seen in the name of the event itself, being 'World Wallball Championships' rather than 'World One-wall Handball Championships', as it used to be called.
