Speedy deletion declined

[edit]

I've declined the speedy deletion request related to recreation of the article after AfD. The deletion discussion indicated that the reason for deletion was that this player has not yet played a game in a fully-professional league. According to reliable sources, he is now signed with a team playing in the Indian Super League, described by Wikipedia as a professional league, so that rationale is no longer valid. However, the team's season does not start for another month, so by one interpretation he has not technically "played" with the team I suppose. I personally believe that deleting the article on this technicality only for it to be recreated a month from now is throwing out the baby with the bathwater, but if some other editors insist I will consider moving it to draft-space in the meantime. @Ivanvector: Firstly, a player becomes notable when he plays in a fully pro league and not simply by signing in a club which plays in a full-pro league. Secondly, what you said constitutes WP:CRYSTALBALL. How can we assume that he will surely play matches in the league? He might get injured for the entire season. He might also be released without playing any matches. Or, he might be in the bench through out the season. This article falls under WP:TOOSOON. Such articles are always deleted (ex. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jordan Greenidge, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ron-Robert Zieler, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Borja Mayoral and loads of other articles). @Ivanvector: G4 should be applied, article still fails WP:NFOOTBALL. Govvy (talk) 17:25, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ivanvector: - agree, delete. The subject may never actually play for the team with which he has signed -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:40, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Delete is the correct call, per TOOSOON/CRYSTAL. But having reached this stage, userfying would do no harm, nor would draftifying. So long as User:Abhishe78 now realises that it isn't appropriate to create or recreate pages about players until they actually play at fully pro level. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:51, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
