Not quite right

[edit]

The entire biographical section is more of a resumé than a biography. Pandarsson (talk) 09:22, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Huh?

[edit]

There is something seriously wrong with this article. There is a huge body of repetitive text that reads almost like garbage. Even the text below in this talk page is completely irrelevant. Should the entire article just be rewritten? AstarothCY 19:38, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Irrelevant

[edit]

Copyright violations aren't OK on talk pages either. Content removed. --Alvestrand 20:21, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting

[edit]

Much of the foregoing is taken verbatim from [1]. The latest edits to the main article consisted largely of adding such copyvio material and quoting excessively from views that were already stated, so I've reverted. Some of the biographical information could legitimately be added, but it shouldn't be plagiarized and it shouldn't use vanity phrases like "Dr. Zavos is recognized worldwide as a true pioneer...." JamesMLane 18:15, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Another copyvio reversion

[edit]

I have reverted the article to its March 30 version, before the copyright violation from [2] was added. Please do not reinsert; it will be reverted again. --Alvestrand 20:19, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

speedy deletion please

[edit]

i'd like to second the notice that this article reads like an advertisement. it doesn't belong on wikipedia. 99.233.152.171 (talk) 09:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

POV tag

[edit]

This concerns POV tag cleanup. Whenever an POV tag is placed, it is necessary to also post a message in the discussion section stating clearly why it is thought the article does not comply with POV guidelines, and suggestions for how to improve it. This permits discussion and consensus among editors. This is a drive-by tag, which is discouraged in WP, and it shall be removed. Future tags should have discussion posted as to why the tag was placed, and how the topic might be improved. Better yet, edit the topic yourself with the improvements. This statement is not a judgement of content, it is only a cleanup of frivolously and/or arbitrarily placed tags. No discussion, no tag.Jjdon (talk) 00:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced/false claims removed

[edit]

I removed obvious false statements on dr Zavos' renome as a scientist. He's mostly considered a charlatane, so there's no reason for keeping bullshit on Wikipedia. Pamejudd (talk) 14:24, 26 April 2009 (UTC)pamejudd[reply]

Article desperately needs cites

[edit]

Article is in terrible shape. We need to cite everything to reliable third-party sources (WP:CITE, WP:VERIFY), e.g, not Dr Zavos' own web site.
This is simply Wikipedia policy and has nothing to do with whether we personally like Dr Zavos or not. -- 201.37.230.43 (talk) 22:18, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WPMED

[edit]

This person does not appear to be a licensed physician, and WPMED does not normally support biographies. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:11, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SCIENCE CHANNEL DOCUMENTARY

[edit]

A human cloning Docu. with Zavos as the main subject to show the different aspect of human cloning and the opposition to it . This may offer a good source of info. Just wanted to make people aware it was out there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.74.144.252 (talk) 03:37, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

entire article is garbage

[edit]

This is one huge puff piece. And to reference #11, it doesn't really matter what it says in that paper because it is absurdly inappropriate to rebuck or dismiss a criticism of a man by referencing a paper by that man. So I'm going to remove that line, and if someone disagrees please come up with a way good reason, because you need a MUCH better reference for the kind of garbage this line is spewing. 173.26.55.148 (talk) 09:59, 12 March 2011 (UTC)miah tu mama tonto[reply]

[edit]
Academic Career & Professional Work
[edit]

Professor Dr. Panayiotis Zavos is a highly educated and motivated individual. He received his B.S. degree in Biology, his M.S. degree in Biology-Physiology, and his Education Specialist in Science degree (Ed.S.) from Emporia State University[1]. He earned his PhD. in Reproductive Physiology (Medicine), Biochemistry, and Statistics from the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities, USA[2]. He also earned an MBA degree. Dr. Zavos is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky in Reproductive Physiology/Andrology and other Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs), an Honorary Professor by the Chinese Academy of Science, China, and a Professor Emeritus, at Venkateshwara Institute of Medicine, India.

Prof. Zavos is also the Honorary Chairman of the Zavos Organization, the Director and Chief of Andrology at the Andrology Institute of America, the President, and CEO of Fertility Technologies International, Inc., and the Founder & GM of ZDL Global Ltd. in Cyprus. Prof. Zavos recently developed a new generation of dietary supplements, aiming to enhance reproductive performance, both in the male and females.

Dr. Zavos is currently serving as a Board Member of the Middle East Fertility Society[3], a past Board Member of the China Academy of Sciences, an Advisor to the Kuwait Medical Genetic Center, and a Scientific Advisor to the Albar Medical Center in Saudi Arabia among many others. He was awarded the first-ever Honorary Professorship by the Chinese Academy of Science awarded to an American Scientist by the Chinese Academy of Science. He is the Founder and Director of the Zavos Organization, an Organization that disseminates scientific and clinical information globally for various reproductive difficulties. It’s no wonder that Dr. Zavos has picked up such accolades as the World's Father of Andrology, the Father of Human Cloning, a Distinguished Scholar at Northwestern University, a Fullbright Scholar, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Emporia State University, the Student Leadership Award from the University of Minnesota, recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award, and many others too numerous to mention.

Dr. Zavos was the first scientist to successfully perform intrauterine inseminations in humans, the first to create the first human SCNT-prepared embryos for reproductive purposes and use them in women. He is a true pioneer in many other areas.

No doubt, Professor Zavos is recognized worldwide as a leading researcher, a public speaker, a pioneer, and a strong authority in the areas of male reproductive medicine, gamete physiology, male infertility, smoking and reproduction, Andrology, and the study of human reproduction along with other ART procedures, including ICSI, PGD, SCNT, ROSI, ROSNI, and other state-of-the-art procedures. He is a true leader in his field and a world-class scientist and pioneer.

Publications and Contributions

[edit]

Professor Zavos is fluent in English and Greek and is a very inspirational, informed, and articulate speaker. Over the years he has been an invited speaker and participated in numerous speaking engagements worldwide. His speeches and debates that appeared globally have covered a large spectrum of topics dealing with human reproduction, reproductive technologies, and other high-tech topics. He has received a great deal of media coverage both within the scientific and reproductive arena, and the mainstream press for his many scientific accomplishments. He addressed the Congress of the United States twice. He has also addressed the American Academy of Sciences- and participated in the Oxford Union Debates in the UK. Zavos has made many television and radio appearances, from National Public Radio to CBS 60 Minutes, Dateline NBC, CBS Face the Nation, BBC World, BBC Talking Point, The Larry King Show, The View with Barbara Walters, and many others.[4]

Professor Zavos has published numerous research articles and papers in scientific journals throughout his career[5]. His contributions to the field of reproductive medicine are documented through various peer-reviewed studies, clinical trials, and collaborative research projects.

Professional Affiliations

[edit]

Professor Zavos has been affiliated with several academic and research institutions throughout his career. His professional affiliations include positions at universities and research centers where he has contributed to advancing knowledge in reproductive health medicine and the overall physiology of reproduction with emphasis on Andrology and the treatment of subfertility in the male.

Controversy

[edit]

Professor Zavos is also well-known throughout the globe for his controversial work regarding human cloning.[1][6] In the early 2000s, he attracted widespread media attention for initiating research and application of somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) in animal models and performing such procedures in humans. He was instrumental in creating the first human cloned embryos (published work) and also performing the first embryo transfers (ET) of those embryos in humans aiming to establish the first pregnancy using SCNT-produced embryos (published work). His work and public speaking on the subject have sparked a great deal of debate within the scientific community at the global level. Prof. Zavos participated in a number of those debates including a historical Oxford Union debate between himself and Lord Winston. That debate alone created a great deal of reaction throughout the world and brought a great deal of reality to the whole aspect of human cloning as a viable option for use in the treatment of human infertility.

Personal Life

[edit]

Details about Professor Zavos’s personal life are relatively private. He remains exceedingly active on a global basis with his lectures and talks at a number of scientific gatherings as he continues to work in the field of reproductive medicine. He remains an influential figure in discussions related to all forms of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs), human health and reproduction, the effects of smoking (published work), COVID-19 virus (published work), and other such events on testicular dynamics, sperm physiology, and overall fertility. He always believed that in all that he does, the sky's the limit and above all, "people are his business and the world is his market".

  • Why it should be changed:

I believe the entire text could be written over again. I do have a lot of publications that go along with some of the claims written on the page, that are not listed.

Jeanne Dawson (talk) 14:04, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jeanne Dawson You are more likely to get volunteer editors willing to invest the time in examining your edit request if, instead of proposing a wholesale rewrite, you propose smaller, incremental changes one at a time. Yes, that will take time, but will be more likely done. 331dot (talk) 14:25, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You also must disclose your conflict of interest, please see your user talk page for instructions. 331dot (talk) 14:26, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How do I get in contact with someone who can do that? 71.28.71.63 (talk) 14:27, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Remember to log in. You do it by making edit requests as you already did, just make them with much smaller proposed changes. I would even remove your entire request above and replace it with a smaller proposal, then when that is accepted, do another, and so on. 331dot (talk) 14:37, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I am a little confused. Whenever I make edit the article, it is automatically rejected. I was going to get a volunteer editor to do it but im not sure how to contact them. Wikipedia is kind of confusing as well. Jeanne Dawson (talk) 17:31, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You contact other editors by making edit requests, as you already did once on this page(that request is still open). Edit requests are grouped in a category that volunteer editors monitor. If you want to contact specific editors, such as those who have edited the article previously, you can do so via their user talk pages(which are linked in the edit history). My advice is that you allow the edit request to be reviewed(but that you make it more incremental). There is a learning curve to editing Wikipedia, which is partially by design. 331dot (talk) 19:05, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: this is quite promotional-sounding and sourced almost entirely to the subject's own website. If you'd like to have any changes made to the article I suggest finding what independent sources (neither Zavos nor anyone affiliated with him) have to say, and writing based on that. Rusalkii (talk) 01:54, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is Prof. Zavos,
I would like to have my personal page on Wikipedia deleted and eliminated from appearing on Wikipedia. We have attempted via several associates to bring this page to a more real and accurate depiction of who I am and what I represent but you chose to ignore such requests.
I, therefore, can not allow the current status of my personal Wikipedia page to go on as it is unedited and out of date, depicting more inaccuracies and lies and innuientos about myself. I deserve better than that!
I therefore, wish to have my page deleted and completely eliminated from your publication, Wikipedia. Panayiotiszavos (talk) 15:29, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PLEASE RESPECT MY DECISION
I wish to have my page deleted and completely eliminated from your publication, Wikipedia. Panayiotiszavos (talk) 15:29, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The wishes of a subject are unfortunately not usually relevant as to if there is an article about them on Wikipedia. You cannot keep Wikipedia from writing about you any more than you can keep The New York Times or CNN from writing about you. The only relevance is if an article does not meet our policies on notability or sourcing. If you want to argue that you are not a notable person as Wikipedia uses the word, that's your only possibility, but from looking at this you seem notable.
Your associates have been told how they can correct inaccuracies in this article. Please make a formal edit request(click for instructions) on this page, detailing changes you feel are needed, preferably sourced to independent reliable sources. 331dot (talk) 15:53, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kind Sir,
I personally dealt with all of the sources that you are refering in your statement...."You cannot keep Wikipedia from writing about you any more than you can keep You cannot keep Wikipedia from writing about you any more than you can keep The New York Times or CNN from writing about you.from writing about you." but you are very inacurate and extremely laive!
If those sources say anything that that is inacurate and untrue and not well researched, they bear the responsibility of accepting that and they may stand to be corrected. If the damage my reputation via their inacuracies and defame me and they are told that are doing it and do not correct their records and stories, in America, they stand to be sued for millions of dollars. This may be a warning for you to either change your attitude and approach to the way you carry on with your business or you may be facing the law.
Let me correct you once again.....You are not up to the standards of The New York Times or CNN. I have been intervewed many times by thoir reportes. I gave an interview yesterday to a very reputable reporter from the Atlantic magazine! Panayiotiszavos (talk) 16:32, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good Afternoon,
I have tried many times to contribute to Prof. Zavos Wikipedia page and have been unable to. 71.28.71.63 (talk) 16:38, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why I am unable to. It's been stated that an independent reviewer is allowed to contribute but every time that I have tried, I have been unsuccessful. I'm not sure who is able to contribute if I nor the person themselves, Prof. Zavos is unable to contribute or gets denied when they try. 71.28.71.63 (talk) 16:56, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have been able to edit the page, but other edits have reverted your changes because (1) blanking a sourced section of a page with no explanation is not allowed and (2) by policy, anyone is allowed to revert a proposed deletion at any time. I strongly suspect that you are in fact associated with Zavos and should also avoid editing the page directly, but even if you are not the rest of the community may still undo your edits if they disagree with them.
@Panayiotiszavos, legal threats are no allowed on Wikipedia. If you don't remove it, you will blocked. Again, you have been told how to correct the content you object to (suggest edits in a neutral tone with reliable, independent sources demonstrating it is false). If you can't do this, it will stay up. Rusalkii (talk) 17:10, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As an independent writer, I have contributed edits, but they are repeatedly reverted to the original text. I believe some of the information is misleading or inaccurate. Despite the openness to contributions, I am unclear on why my revisions are consistently undone. 71.28.71.63 (talk) 17:38, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My reply is very straightforward. You view my comments as threatening which is very inaccurate. Every person on this earth (including myself) has the right to defend itself and needs to be via legal means (a very lawful act) to make his/her case. The facts must be spoken. In your very own SOPs and as you stated above, the person's page can not be modified by that very person (In this case myself) and therefore my whole destiny depends on some innocent and naive individual that knows nothing about my work to write and modify my page to his liking or disliking. This is not how the New York Times operates. The freedom of the press laws do not apply in your case and therefore you need to be made aware that if you (or any other third party) write something inaccurate, wrong or misleading about me, you must bear the responsibility of correcting it or other means may be applied to see to it that such corrections may be made by the appropriate authorities.
I am willing to cooperate with you to bring my personal Wikipedia page up to publishable standards with factual information so that the public can view the facts, the truth, the picture as it pertains to me and my accomplishments. Awaiting to hear of your decision and your kind gesture! Panayiotiszavos (talk) 17:56, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Be advised that legal threats are not permitted on Wikipedia. You can pursue your grievances either in the courts or using Wikipedia processes, but not both. I've told you how you can propose edits to this article. Be advised that this article will summarize what independent reliable sources say about you, not what you want to say about yourself. 331dot (talk) 18:02, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've made no decisions, I've informed you of Wikipedia policies. If there are inaccuracies, Wikipedia policies require they be corrected.(WP:BLP) 331dot (talk) 18:15, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
