Merger

[edit]

After all this effort some one wants to merge this article with Pradakshina. It would be unfair, since the contents of the article Parikrama (religious practice) relate mostly to specifically named, very popular, Parikramas of rivers, hills, towns, etc which are practiced north of the Vindhyas. It is the most popular practice by that name in the whole of North India and also in Gujarat which is also part of the Narmada valley. In fact, the other article is not even evaluated into Stub class. All three articles named have been in existence for quite some years - Parikarama from May 2005, Pradaskina from October 2005 and Circumambuation from Novemebr 2005 - (surprisingly all of them without any merger tag posted on any of them by any one) and I only expanded one of them and there goes the merger symbol since it got the DYK acceptance. The article as posted now should be retained as it contains much more information than any other on the subject of Parikrama or Pradakshina or Circumambulation. The right thing to do would be to merge some of the contents of the Pradakshina article into the Parikrama article.I suppose Administrators have to decide if the merger tag is to be retained or not. If the administrators feel that the DYK is unjustified and C - grade is not proper, then I have no objection to the whole of my text being undone on this article. I also feel that even if I had expanded any of the other articles with these additional text material and posted as DYK then also this tag would have been posted.--Nvvchar (talk) 17:04, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nvvchar, i think you have some misconceptions. Merging the info is NOT deleting info here. It's just adding to info here from Pradakshina. Support merger. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 11:36, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification. No hard feelings. I will add from Pradakshina article text which would enhance the contents of the Parikrama article, such as Shayana Pradakshina and number of Pradaskshinas. Since the merger has to be done by an adminsitrator only, I will leave it to you for further needful, please.--Nvvchar (talk) 15

No. Another misconception: The merger can be done by anyone, an administrator need not be involved. Though a WP:CONSENSUS should be formed. Since Parikrama and Pradakshina are synonymous, i see no reason why anyone would object. Only which should be a redirect should be discussed. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 17:57, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two sections of Pradaksina article have been added and hecne merger tag removed.--Nvvchar (talk) 08:03, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What is the right Sanskrit spelling (you can find some different romanizations: pradakṣina and pradakṣiṇa)?

And possibly there are some more related words:

Parikrama in Islam

[edit]

Is the ritual really called "Parikrama" by, for example, Indian Muslims? In another Wiki article (Circumambulation#Islam), it's just called "Tawaf", in Arabic. --Djadjko (talk) 03:48, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
