I'm not sure you can say this - I believe you have to say his girlfriend is expecting a child. But I'm no native speaker myself.
This aside, the information is probably outdated, and should be corrected.
If you really need to put ephemeral stuff into an article, please mention a date for which the statement was valid. (i.e. "In 2011 he had 2 kids & his GF was expecting another")
